Animal Welfare League gets a helping holiday hand

AURORA – The Fox Valley Park District has partnered with the Fox Valley Animal Welfare League to help promote collection efforts during the League's annual drive for holiday donations. The Park District is accepting donations at its main facilities and encouraging visitors to lend a helping hand on behalf of the hundreds of cats and dogs living at League shelters.
Items on the shelter wish list include food and treats, harnesses, collars, leashes, grooming tools, toys and general cleaning and storage items. Donations are being accepted at the Eola Community Center (555 S. Eola Road, Aurora), Prisco Community Center (150 W. Illinois Ave., Aurora), Vaughan Athletic Center (2121 W. Indian Trail, Aurora) and the District's administrative offices at 712 S. River St. in Aurora.
“We had a huge response last year; it was just phenomenal how many generous, caring people came forward to help,” said Jennifer Huber, program coordinator for the Fox Valley Park District. “We're hoping to do even better this year.”
Huber said the high number of home foreclosures and the struggling economy have led to crowded conditions at many animal shelters, increasing the acute need for food and supplies.
“That also means there are more pets to adopt,” added Huber. “Adoption is very rewarding and fulfilling for all involved.”
All animals pictured on the fliers at donation centers are available for adoption. The drive will run through mid-December. For more information, call the Park District at (630) 859-8606.
