Discovery Center Museum Build it! Make it! exhibition, daily through Jan. 4, 2015, Discover Center Museum, 711 N. Main St. Rockford. Admission: $10 for public, free for members. Creativity flows in the exhibit as  visitors design, invent, and construct whatever they can dream up. Woodward Exhibit Hall has been transformed into an innovative space filled with all kinds of building items where kids and adults can play with ideas, explore materials and tinker with tools. 2014 Festival of Lights at Sinnissippi Park, through Dec. 28, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, 5-10 p.m., 1401 N. 2nd Street, Rockford. Come enjoy holiday family fun with over fifty spectacular lighted displays as you drive through scenic Sinnissippi Park. These displays, created by local businesses and groups, include Santa Claus, reindeer, snowmen, nativity scenes and more. Free admission, donations appreciated. Information: (815) 494-2569

“A Christmas Carol” presented by Rock Valley College Studio Theatre, through Dec. 13, 3301 N. Mulford Road, Rockford. Shows on Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday at  8 p.m. each night (2 p.m. performances on Dec. 6, 7 and 13). Admission: $20 adult, $17 students/seniors. Free holiday concert with the United States Air Force Band of Mid-America, Dec. 12, 7 p.m., Coronado Performing Arts Center, 314 N. Main St., Rockford. The Rockford Park District welcomes the band, who will perform a free concert called “Unwrap the Season.” The family-friendly concert, which will include an audience sing along and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, is  presented by Associated Bank.
