It’s good to be the corporation

When I was a kid I wanted to grow up and be a pilot.

That was a bad idea.

I should have become a corporation. Why? Because corporations are where the money is. And they are on the verge of gorging themselves on even more cash.

President Donald Trump has decided what the economy needs is more money in the hands of the wealthiest Americans.

Once they have enough money the wealthy will use that money to start and expand businesses, hire workers, create jobs.

And — voila — the economy and the country are saved.

Accordingly, Trump proposes to slash corporate income tax from 35 percent to 15 percent.

And there are other goodies for the rich, including reducing the top individual tax rate (incomes more that $470,000) from 39.6 percent to 35 percent; and elimination of the estate tax for individuals with an estate of $5.5 million, or couples with an estate of $11 million.

If you give the wealthy a lot more wealth and they will use it to create jobs sounds familiar, it should.

If you give the wealthy a lot more wealth and they will use it to create jobs sounds familiar, it should.

It’s our old pal Trickle-Down Economics, but without the name.

Make the rich richer and everyone benefits. It’s kind of the pledge of allegiance for conservatives.

But it never works. Huge tax cuts for the rich end up in huge deficits and an economy in trouble.

Trickle-Down Economics misunderstands (on purpose?) human nature.

Rich people still are people. When people get extra money they hold onto it or spend it on themselves.

But, hey, maybe there is something for us in Trump’s tax plan.

Well, we no longer will be able to deduct state income tax on our federal income tax.

And the number of tax brackets would be simplified from seven to three — 10, 15 and 25 percent.

But the plan does not say what income levels go in what bracket. Thus, we could be shoved into a higher tax bracket instead of a lower one.

No one knows, yet.

Yep. Much better to be a corporation.

I didn’t get to be a pilot, either.
