“Jour de fête,” a 1949 French comedy, will be shown with English subtitles. Jacques Tati stars in his directional debut as an inept and easily distracted mailman in a backward French village. The movie was shot largely in and around Sainte-Sévère-sur-Indre, where Tati lived during the Occupation. A discussion will be held in French after the movie. “Called Out, A Novel About Base Ball and America in 1908”

Floyd Sullivan, a former Oak Park resident, will talk about his book. It is a story set in 1908, and National League President Harry Pulliam suspects that the owner of the New York Giants has hired detectives to spy on him and his lover, Ted. Near the end of the season, one of the most exciting and bizarre in history, a controversial play in a key game results in violent protests, riots and death.

Spring Fishing Classic

Fishing enthusiasts are invited to compete to hook a record-breaking fish in this popular catch-and-release fundraiser. Participants may fish the entire shore for muskie, catfish, walleye and bass. Tickets include lunch and an award ceremony. Proceeds will go to support restoration, education and animal care at Lake Katherine.

Southwest Symphony Orchestra (SSO) will host an event at which 11 talented participants will be voted according to monetary ballots cast. Musicians, singers and a dancer are among the contestants. The first-place winner will win $500.
