Compass Rose Sextet

Compass Rose Sextet’s original compositions and innovative arrangements take a fresh approach to instrumental music. Members draw from a wide range of international influences, including Celtic jigs and reels, Brazilian bossas and choros, Moroccan ghira, French musette, gypsy swing, Caribbean sambas and Argentinian tangos to create a unique blend of world music. A wine-and-cheese reception will be held at intermission.

Lakefront Bird Watching

Scott Judd, a lifelong birding enthusiast, will lead a bird-watching walk. He has been birding in Rogers Park regularly since his move there in 2015, and has documented more than 80 species of birds in his back yard, as well as spotting notable migrants in the Loyola Dune. Judd will lead a leisurely stroll from Leone Beach to Pratt Pier and back, with an eye on seeing as many birds as possible in the various habitats of the park. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars.

Mother’s Day Tea Cup Gardening

This event is an early Mother’s Day treat for moms. Those who attend will enjoy a continental breakfast during the morning session and finger sandwiches during the afternoon session. Todd and Holland Tea will be served at each. Participants will create a teacup garden to take home.

Mental Health and Wellness Fair

The fair will have information about mental health services available in Evanston. More than 25 mental health organizations and practitioners will distribute information. Clinical, legal, financial, housing and holistic assistance will be available. Free mental health screenings will be offered.

“Lend Me a Tenor”

Ken Ludwig’s “Lend Me a Tenor” is set in September 1934, on the biggest night in the history of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, where world-famous tenor Tito Morelli is scheduled to perform “Otello” at the gala season opener. What happens is the recipe for comedic disaster.

District 1-A Lions Helen Keller 5 K Run/Walk

$30 for 5K run, $20 for 5K walk

The course for the eighth annual event will begin at Richards High School, going through the Wolfe Wildlife Area Trail, and finishing back at Richards. Proceeds will benefit programs assisting people who are blind or hearing/visually impaired, including those offered by The Chicago Lighthouse. Register at lions1a-us.org.
