Businesses and stores throughout Park Ridge will stay open late to welcome visitors with warm hot cocoa and special treats. The public can enjoy a visit from Santa, live reindeer and elves, carolers and trolley rides in the decorated Uptown and South Park areas of Park Ridge. A display of luminaries along Prospect and Courtland will be set up by the Boy Scouts and city.

A variety of crafters and vendors will sell their goods. The event will have raffles and a sale of baked goods and concessions.

The sale offers an opportunity to shop for Christmas with 20 or more vendors. Crafts, baked goods and more will be sold.

This pop-up shop will highlight black-owned small businesses and artisans as a way to support the black business community during this holiday season.

Celebrate the holiday season at Orland Park’s annual holiday festival and tree lighting ceremony. Festivities will include holiday craft and food vendors, barrel train car rides $1 per child/per ride, sleigh rides, live community entertainment, activities and more. Santa will visit. Holiday crafts, food, beer, wine and beverages will be sold. The tree will be lit at 4:40 p.m.

From the heaven-storming timpani of the opening chorus, the Christmas story unfolds in dramatic narrative, moving arias, and inspiring chorales—performed with the power and passion Music of the Baroque brings to Bach’s great choral works. Carl Grapentine will give preconcert lectures at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 25, at the Doubletree Hotel (Athens Room) adjacent to the North Shore Center, and 6:30 p.m. Nov. 26, at the Harris Theater.

“Radio Goes to War

Join Steve Darnall for a look at the ways that radio addressed the challenges of bringing the day-to-day developments of a war to listeners around the world, and hear samples of news broadcasts, presidential speeches, special entertainment shows, inspirational programs and more. Darnall is the host for “Those Were The Days,” a program that air programs from the golden age of radio from 1-5 p.m. Saturdays on WDCB-FM.

Pretty Packaging Paper Crafting

In this paper crafting session, students will create a box, a bag and lots of tags. Paper crafting instructor Tina Gary will provide the instruction, guidance and materials for these projects using stamps and accessories. Bring a pair of scissors and a glue stick; all other supplies are included in the $10 fee. The class is for participants 16 years and older. Space is limited. Visit the Registration Desk in the library to reserve a spot. Online and phone registration are not available. Payment is due at registration.
