Menich named Caseworker of the Year

Elk Grove Township announced that Lisa Menich, Director of General Assistance and Community Outreach, was named Caseworker of the Year during the Annual Township Officials of Illinois Conference, held in Springfield last November. The prestigious award is given out once a year to a caseworker based on level of service provided, going above and beyond serving clients, improving services to the community, community involvement and impact. Barrington

Slew of teachers earn National Board Certification

The Barrington 220 Community Unit School District Board of Education recently recognized nine teachers who have earned National Board Certification. The credential is considered to be one of the most respected nationwide among educators. Teachers earn the certification through a rigorous process and must renew every 10 years. The following Barrington 220 teachers earned their National Board Certification in December 2017: Stephanie Blatchley (Countryside Elementary School); Pam Katchen and Jennifer Magdalener (Hough Street School); and Lauren Schoepp and Cary Waxler (Barrington High School). The following teachers renewed their certification in November 2017: Amy Breidenbach (Grove Avenue Elementary); Sara Carlson (Roslyn Road Elementary); and Becky Wiegel (Director of Language Programs & Grants). Elmwood Park Restaurant Week set to begin

Elmwood Park will host the inaugural Elmwood Park Restaurant Week from Feb. 16-25. Participating restaurants will be offering special menus and pricing throughout the week, giving food lovers an opportunity to sample some of Elmwood Park’s finest local establishments. Schaumburg

Village taps new spot for nursing and senior division

The village reported that the Schaumburg Village Board recently approved the relocation of the Public Health Nursing & Senior Services Division from its current, aging facility at 521 E. Schaumburg Road into a leased space in Market Square, located at the corner of Plum Grove and Schaumburg roads. The move is being made to allow the division to operate from a centralized location that offers high visibility, ease of access and abundant parking. In addition, the site is newer and was specifically constructed for commercial purposes. Renovations to the facility will begin this spring, with an anticipated relocation of village staff and services beginning this summer. The current facility, known as the Slingerland House, was constructed in the 1940s as a single-story residence. It was acquired by the village in 1989 and became home of the nursing division in 1995. South Holland

Nominations sought for teacher appreciation award

The village announced that the South Holland Education Commission is now accepting nominations for its inaugural Teacher Appreciation Red Tulip Award. Any nominee must be a certified teacher in South Holland who has demonstrated outstanding service by going beyond their daily duties to effectively change students’ lives. Nominations must be submitted by the principal or school administrator from a school located in the village. A maximum of three nominations may be submitted per school. Entries must be received no later than 5 p.m. March 2. Entries received after the due date will not be considered. Nomination forms are available online at www.southholland.org. Palatine

Series of fish fry dinners to aid Legion Family Charities

The village announced that Palatine American Legion Post 690, the Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion will host a series of fish fry dinners on Fridays during Lent to raise funds for Legion Family Charities. The dinners will be served from 5:30-8 p.m. Feb. 16 and 23, and March 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 in the banquet hall at American Legion Post 690, 122 W. Palatine Road. The menu includes battered cod, garden salad, tater tots, mac & cheese, coleslaw, rolls, coffee and dessert. The cost is $11 for adults, $9 for veterans or seniors ages 65 and up, and $5 for children under age 10. Village to host Streetscape Concepts Open House 

The village announced that it will host a Streetscape Concepts Open House from 6-7 p.m. Feb. 26 at Village Hall, 510 Green Bay Road. The Downtown Master Plan Task Force will be on hand with a display of exhibits for public consideration and comment. The Streetscape and Signage Task Force meeting will immediately follow the Open House. All are welcome to attend both the Open House and the Task Force meeting.
