Police Dept. to partake in Law Enforcement Torch Run

The Barrington Hills Police Department will take part in the 2018 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois on June 10. The Torch Run includes an annual intrastate relay conducted by officers representing every branch of law enforcement across the state, from police officers to FBI agents. Approximately 3,000 officers will carry the Flame of Hope nearly 1,500 miles June 10-15, running through Illinois towns and communities via 23 different legs (routes) to its final destination: the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics Summer Games on June 15, in Normal. Leg 15 will begin at the Barrington Hills Police Department at 8 a.m. and proceed west on Route 62 to Route 31, and then proceed north to Knox Park in McHenry. The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the single largest year-round fundraising movement benefiting Special Olympics Illinois, raising more than $47 million over 32 years. Police Dept. to host second annual Bowl with a Cop

The village announced that the Buffalo Grove Police Department will host its second annual Bowl with a Cop event from noon to 2 p.m. June 6 at Bowlero, 350 N. McHenry Road. The event provides an opportunity for area children (ages 7-17) to enjoy two hours of free bowling with Buffalo Grove police officers as a way to help build a trusting relationship between youth in the community and the police department. Shoe rentals also will be available free of charge. Hot dogs and fountain drinks will be available at a discounted rate of $1 each. Slew of Youth Orchestra members earn scholarships

The village recently awarded Schaumburg Youth Orchestra scholarships valuing $2,500 to 19 students for thia, 1403 Sherman Ave.. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fleetwood-Jourdain, King Arts, Salvation Army and Mason Park, located on Church Street at Florence Avenue — and from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Robert Crown Center, Oakton School and McGaw YMCA, 1000 Grove Street. The Summer Youth Food Service program is funded by a grant from the Illinois Board of Education. Menus are available at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center and on-site at each location. The Schaumburg Youth Orchestra was founded in 1989 as a recreational and educational outlet for young advanced musicians in the Schaumburg area. Artisan Street Fair offers art, food and live music

The village announced that the 2018 Homewood Artisan Street Fair will be held from 4-9 p.m. June 8 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 9 on Martin Avenue (between Ridge Road and Hickory Road). The event includes unique artisan products, fine art, locally sourced food from Homewood restaurants, food trucks, vintage items, home decor and more. Live music includes MG Bailey (4 p.m.), Courtney Yasmineh (5:15 p.m.) and The Hemispheres (7 p.m.) on June 8; and the The McDowell Brothers (10 a.m.), Subhi (11:30 a.m.), The Wandering Boys (1 p.m.) and Work in Progress (4 p.m.) on June 9. The After-Party (6-9 p.m. June 9) features Not My Dad and Two Chicks. The event also includes Makerspace, offering a series of hands-on arts and crafts activities for all ages, as well as a display of the Chairs With A Purpose! exhibit, sponsored by The Cancer Support Center. Summer Youth Food Service program set to begin

The city announced that the Summer Youth Food Service program will begin June 11. The program provides free cold breakfasts and lunches for youth (ages 1-18) on a first-come, first-served basis (Monday-Friday) through Aug. 17 (no service July 4). There are no residency or income-based restrictions to participate in the program, but meals must be eaten on-site and parents must accompany young children. Breakfast will be served from 7-9 a.m. at Chute Middle School, 1400 Oakton Street; Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center, 1655 Foster Street; Robert Crown Community Center, 1701 Main Street; King Arts School, 2424 Lake Street; Oakton School, 436 Ridge Ave.; and the Salvation Army Cafeter.
