Input sought on flooding

The village will be receiving $500,000 from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago for a storm water drainage study to help address flooding issues near 135th Street and Central Avenue.

Residents in the area bordered by Central and Long avenues, 139th Street and Homestead Drive will be surveyed. The study is planned to be completed by mid-summer, with the project moving immediately into the design phase.

A questionnaire is being sent to residents impacted by flooding to help the MWRD understand the extent of drainage concerns. The questionnaire is also available at Village Hall and online at www.villageofcrestwoodil.gov. Questionnaires should be returned by April 10.

Park district to offer shorter fitness memberships

The Hickory Hills Park District will start offering six-month memberships to its fitness center beginning this summer.

Officials note that membership at the center is down about 15 percent. Jennifer Fullerton, executive director of the Park District, said the facility has lost 100 members since its grand reopening in 2011.

Moraine Valley opening a fitness center may have some impact on membership, according to Park District commissioners.

The six-month membership will be $120. A full-year membership is $190.

The village bid out the project at the end of last year and has awarded the contract to A-Lamp Concrete Contractors of Schaumburg at a price just under $8.9 million, about $1.2 million under the village engineer’s projected cost. The main trunk line will run from the deep tunnel in the Menard’s parking lot west along Isabella to Elmhurst Avenue.
