Mount Prospect

Fire Dept. names Lambel as chief, Dolan as deputy chief

The village announced that Brian Lambel has been appointed as the Mount Prospect Fire Department’s Fire Chief, and that John Dolan was named Deputy Fire Chief. Lambel, a member of the Fire Department since 2000, has been serving as Interim Fire Chief since October. He previously served as a firefighter/paramedic for 10 years, as a lieutenant for three years, and as Battalion Chief for two years. Lambel also has served as team leader of the Mount Prospect Technical Rescue Team, and as a Rescue Squad Officer for the Illinois Urban Search and Rescue Team. In addition, he served for 10 years as a firefighter/paramedic with the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District. Lambel earned a bachelor of science degree in Fire Science Administration in July 2015. Dolan, who has served as Interim Deputy Fire Chief since October, began his career with the Mount Prospect Fire Department in 1993 and became a lieutenant in 2009. He holds a bachelor of business administration degree from Loyola University. The village also reported that firefighter/paramedics Todd Novak, Richard Schwegler, Thomas Wang and Matthew Woleben each were promoted to the rank of lieutenant.

Arlington Heights

Educational course on retirement planning coming to Forest View

Retirement Planning Today, an educational course for adults (ages 50-70), will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m. April 14 and 21 at Forest View Education Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road. Instructors John Mateyko and Peter Lewis, Managing Partners of IDEX Financial Group, will cover the following topics: Life Planning for Retirement, Retirement Needs & Expenses, Retirement Roadblocks & Mistakes, Retirement Income Sources, Retirement Plan Distributions, Investments, Risk Management & Asset Protection, and Estate Planning. The course also includes a 224-page textbook, which provides a step-by-step process to follow along with the classroom presentation and can be kept as a useful reference tool once the course is completed. Youth Commission offers Logo Design Contest to high school students

The city announced that the Park Ridge Youth Commission is inviting area high school students to participate in its Logo Design Contest. The first-place winner will receive a Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce gift certificate worth $100. The second-place finisher will receive a $50 gift certificate, and third place will net a $25 gift certificate. The winning logo will be displayed on all Youth Commission marketing materials. Only digital designs will be accepted, and high-resolution designs are encouraged. All designs should include a full color version and a two-color version. A color print of the design must be included with each entry form. Entries can be delivered to the Administrative Services Office at City Hall, 505 Butler Place, and must be submitted by April 11. Electronics recycling event to be held near water tower

The West Cook County Solid Waste Agency will host a regional electronics recycling event from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 16 in the vicinity of the Westchester Water Tower, located near the intersection of Cermak Road and Enterprise Drive. Items to be accepted include computer equipment and software, small printers, telephones and cellular phones, answering machines, fax machines, stereo equipment, CDs, DVDs and VHS tapes. Televisions also will be accepted (no wooden box frames or large rear-projection screens). Items that will not be accepted include refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, air conditioners, microwave ovens and oversized copiers. Brookfield

Village begins Shields Ave. street improvement project

The village reported that its street improvement project on Shields Avenue, from Eberly Avenue to Maple Avenue, is underway. Scheduled improvements include repairing certain sections of the combined sewer, replacing drainage structures, patching the existing concrete pavement, and resurfacing the pavement with asphalt. Curbs and gutters, and driveway aprons and entry walks, also will be removed and replaced. In addition, handicap-accessible sidewalk ramps will be installed at intersections, and damaged areas of parkway will be restored with sod. Notices will be delivered to residents approximately 24 hours prior to contractors performing any work that will interrupt access to driveway aprons. Residents will not have access to their driveway aprons while curbs, gutters and new driveway aprons are being installed. Certain sections of the street also may be closed during daytime hours to allow for installation of the sewer improvements. The project is expected to be completed by mid-August. Police station to host seminar on landlord training

The city announced that the Crime-Free Rental Housing Program will offer a Landlord Training Seminar from 5-9 p.m. April 20 at the Country Club Hills Police Station, 3700 175th Place. Per conditions of a city ordinance, all property owners/landlords are required to license their property and attend a training seminar. Topics to be covered at the seminar include explaining the ordinance, effectively screening prospective tenants, crime prevention strategies, serving notice to tenants, the eviction process, and more.
