Village continues 60th anniversary celebration with Oktoberfest

In conjunction with its ongoing 60th Anniversary Celebration, the village will host Oktoberfest 2016 from 6-11 p.m. Sept. 23 and 24 at Rotary Green, 164 Lions Drive. The events includes Oktoberfest brews, wine, root beer and a menu featuring Bavarian white bratwurst, Jaeger-style chicken schnitzel, German potato salad, large pretzels with Dusseldorf mustard, strudel and more. Live entertainment will be provided by The Phenix Band (Sept. 23) and Die Musikmeisters (Sept. 24). Food and beverage tickets are $10 for 10 tickets, and tickets are good for both days of the event. Village recruiting artists for upcoming gallery exhibition 

The village reported that artists are being recruited to participate in the Artists’ Gallery Exhibition, to be held from noon to 8 p.m. Oct. 6 and 7, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 8 at the South Holland Community Center, 501 E. 107th Street. The Artists’ Gallery features a unique collection of oils, watercolors, pastels, graphite and colored pencil, prints, photographs, pottery and miniatures. The gallery is seeking adult artists, and artists attending junior high and high school. Elmwood Park Fall Fest coming to Mills Park

The village announced that Elmwood Park Fall Fest will be held from 5-11 p.m. Sept. 23, noon to 11 p.m. Sept. 24 and noon to 10 p.m. Sept. 25 at Mills Park, located at 76th and Diversey avenues. The event includes local food vendors, pony rides for kids (5-10 p.m. Sept. 23 and 24; noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 25), a petting zoo (noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 24 and 25) and scarecrow building (noon to 8 p.m. Sept. 25). A daily lineup of live music includes headliners Kashmir (8:30 p.m. Sept. 23), Hillbilly Rockstarz (8:30 p.m. Sept. 24) and Heartache Tonight (8 p.m. Sept. 25). Admission is free. Sign-up on for fall session of Citizens’ Police Academy

The village announced that the Schaumburg Police Department will hold the fall session of its Citizens’ Police Academy from 6:30-9 p.m. on Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 28 and running through Dec. 7. The program is designed to give residents and members of businesses an opportunity to meet and interact on a personal level with members of the police department. In addition to classroom time, the program includes a patrol ride-along, and participation in firearms training, mock traffic stops and conducting room searches. All applicants must be at least 18 years old and live or work in the village. A background check will be conducted for each applicant. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg, Ill. 60194 (Attention: Crime Prevention Specialist). Participants must attend at least 75 percent of the sessions in order to graduate and join the Citizens’ Police Academy Alumni Association (CPPAA), an independent, non-profit entity that assists the village and police department in a joint mission to promote civic development through educational presentations on law enforcement issues and community concerns. Hot Rod Classic Car Show to benefit ‘March4Meg’

The village announced that Evergreen Park’s Annual Hot Rod Classic Car Show will be held from 3-10 p.m. Sept. 23 at Yukich Field, located at 89th Street and Kedzie Ave. The entry fee is $25 per car, with proceeds benefiting “March4Meg.” Pre-registration for participating vehicles is not required, though participants are encouraged to complete a registration form (available at www.evergreenpark-ill.com) in advance to expedite the on-site registration process. Evanston

Renovation project at beach houses to continue through year

The city reported that it will be conducting contracted improvements at the Greenwood Street Beach House and Lee Street Beach House during the next three months. Scheduled improvements include roof replacement, window and door replacements, restroom renovations, electrical and plumbing work, and other miscellaneous repairs. Both beach houses will be closed during construction. Access to the lakefront’s jogging/walking paths will be maintained throughout the duration of the project. The project, funded through General Obligations Funds for Capital Improvement Projects, is expected to be completed by late December. Village to host Mobile Driver Services Facility event

The village announced the Illinois Secretary of State’s Mobile Driver Services Facility will offer driver’s license renewals, vision screening for licenses, Illinois photo identification cards, license plate renewal stickers and information on how to register to become an organ and tissue donor from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 23 in the Board Room at Village Hall, 425 Hillside Ave. Normal issuance and renewal fees will apply; Illinois residents ages 65 and up can obtain a photo ID card at no charge. Hanover Park

Village to host recycling event at Metra Station

The village announced that it will host a recycling event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 24 (rain or shine) at the Hanover Park Metra Station, 1975 W. Lake Street. Acceptable items include cell phones, ink-jet cartridges, eyeglasses, hearing aids, keys, American flags, CFL and fluorescent bulbs, household batteries, large lead-acid batteries (automobile, sump pump, SLA and marine only), bicycles, crutches, walkers, canes, wheelchairs in workable condition, motor oil and antifreeze, clean/usable child and adult clothing, fire extinguishers and scrap metal. In addition, participants can bring up to three boxes of personal documents for shredding (no hard covers, binders, binder clips, books or materials from businesses).
