PIQNIQ, an annual music festival held by Chicago’s 101WKQX, was well attended this past Saturday (June 30), despite a heat index of over 100 degrees.

The festival took place at Tinley Park’s Hollywood Casino Amphitheater and featured nine bands for $20. The lineup included Awolnation, Bush, Dashboard Confessional, The Neighbourhood and Bishop Briggs — among others.

101WKQX chose not to cancel the event despite the extremely high heat index, but put a few features in place to help fans stay cool. Misting stations were installed at multiple locations around the festival and a few local firefighters came by with a hose to cool off the crowds.

Not to mention, there were plenty of water fountains and concession stands to purchase a cold one and a bite to eat in between acts. The first four acts were held on the Saint Xavier University Stage which was constructed in the parking lot of the amphitheater.

After The Front Bottoms finished a very spirited set around 5 p.m., fans migrated into the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater to watch the five main acts of the night beginning with Bishop Briggs and closing with Awolnation.

PIQNIQ has grown significantly since the festival began in 2013, with thousands of alternative music enthusiasts in attendance on Saturday, according to the radio station’s Facebook page.
