An Oak Park woman is safe after being kidnapped from her home last Sunday night, but police are still searching for the man suspecting of abducting her.

Linsday A. Bowman, 30 was receiving medical treatment Monday evening at a suburban hospital, but Oak Park police officials would not reveal the name of the facility for Bowman’s protection.

The suspect in the case is Bowman’s ex-boyfriend, 31-year-old Sherman Henderson of Lyons, who police say entered Bowman’s home in the 600 block of N. Forest Avenue just before midnight Sunday.

Within minutes of police being alerted to the home invasion, a man described as bloodied, entered the Denny’s restaurant at 711 N. Harlem Avenue in Oak Park, stated he’d been robbed at the 600 Forest address and asked workers to call police.

The man and Bowman were dog sitting and watching television in the house when the woman’s ex boyfriend, Sherman Henderson, kicked in the rear door, according to what Bowman told police.

Police received a call at 11:50 p.m. of a screaming woman being dragged into what was described as a silver Dodge Magnum in the 600 block of Forest Avenue.

Responding officers found the front door open, the back door kicked in and screens pulled off the rear windows.

Another responding officer spotted the fleeing car and followed it west on Chicago Avenue, then south on Thatcher Avenue and west again on Lake Street until the vehicle ran a red light at First Avenue and entered Maywood. The River Forest officer followed at a distance with lights off as Maywood and Melrose Park police were notified.

The Oak Park officer lost view of the vehicle at North Avenue and Roy in Melrose Park after it turned onto a side street. At that point Stone Park and Northlake police were notified. Around 10 minutes after midnight an officer radioed that the suspect Dodge vehicle was spotted “going about a hundred” westbound on North Avenue west of the I-290 expressway.

An ISPRN alert has been broadcast on the vehicle and its driver. Police said the Dodge Magnum has Illinois license plate K134338. Henderson also owns a white 2011 Chevrolet Camaro with Illinois license plate R995300. Henderson, who was previously arrested for domestic battery and unlawful use of a weapon, is considered armed and dangerous.

Henderson’s last known address is 2900 W. Irving Park Road, Chicago.

Police were busy through the night processing several locations for evidence, including searching for the victim’s cell phone, which was electronically located in River Forest near Harlem Avenue.

At a Monday press conference down the block from the crime scene, Commander LaDon Reynolds added nothing to what was known about the incident except to say that Bowman’s family was worried for her safety. After reading from a a prepared statement, he refused to provide answers to any media questions.
