The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago April 26 announced the first of two major projects that will provide flood relief to approximately 2,200 structures along the Addison Creek from Northlake to Broadview, including 1,700 structures that will be removed from the flood plain. The Reservoir will provide approximately $116 million in flood benefits and create approximately 633 construction-related jobs.

“Today is another example of the great community collaborations and partnerships with MWRD that occur throughout the year to help reduce flooding, create job opportunities, add more value to communities and savings to residents and businesses in various Cook County communities,” said MWRD President Kari K. Steele.

The communities benefitting from this project include; Northlake, Stone Park, Melrose Park, Bellwood, Westchester and Broadview. The estimated $63 million reservoir along with the Addison Creek Channel improvements will help alleviate public health and safety concerns reducing overbank flooding. This project would not be possible without the skilled input of dedicated engineers, building trades, technology experts, administrative professionals and the support of various community partners and municipalities. The reservoir and channel improvements are expected to be completed by 2022.
