Summertime Storms

$2 for museum members; museum admission and $2 for non-members

Summer Concerts in the Park

Sycamore Park District Sports Complex, 940 E. State St., Sycamore

R-Gang will kick off the concert series with all favorite Motown and R&B hits. Concerts will be held most Thursdays through July 30. Bring a picnic or purchase food and beverages from the Caddyshack Grill. There are other activities to enjoy while listening to the show: playground, volleyball courts, outdoor table tennis, horseshoe pits, fishing and walking path. Movie in the Park

Sycamore Park District Sports Complex, 940 E. State St., Sycamore

Free

DeKalb, Sycamore and Sandwich park districts will rotate hosting a Friday Family Movie in the Park every Friday. The Sycamore Park District will kick off the season with a showing of “Moana.” Bring a picnic, lawn chairs and blankets. Movies will begin at dusk, but the public is invited to come early for pre-movie activities.

Decades with Disney

1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St., DeKalb

$19.50, children under 3 admitted free

Come wish upon a star with the Performing Arts Academy dancers. Watch childhood favorites come to life on the stage through a variety of dance styles performed with colorful costumes to the soundtracks of Disney classics such as Snow White and Cinderella, as well as modern hits.

Sycamore’s Historic District Walking Tour

1 p.m.

Meet at the Wally Thurow statue, corner of Somonauk and Elm streets

$5 per person

The Sycamore History Museum will kick off its summer guided walking tours of Sycamore’s Historic District with a traditional walking tour along Somonaunk Street. All the walks will be led by Steve Bigolin, a master tour guide with a strong knowledge of DeKalb County history. Handouts with information on highlighted locations will be provided. DeKalb’s Finn Town

At the turn of the 20th century, DeKalb was such a hot spot for Finnish immigrants that they had their own “town” in today’s Pleasant Street neighborhood. In this talk, which is part of the Local Lore Lecture Series, NIU professor Diane Rodgers will explore the neighborhood’s history
