DeKalb  Holiday Pops Concert: Winter Wonderland 

7 p.m. 

NIU Boutell Memorial Concert Hall, Music Building, NIU campus DeKalb 

$16 for adults; $11 for senior citizens 62 and older; $6 for students with ID and children under 12 

Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra, joined by the Celebration Chorale, will perform music of the holiday season. Many holiday favorites will be part of this traditional family concert. Tickets go on sale 30 minutes before the concert. Seating is general admission.

 

 

Dec. 9 

“It’s a Wonderful Life” 

7:30 p.m. 

Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St., DeKalb 

$8 for adults; $6 for senior citizens and students 

Released in 1946, the film stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a man who has given up his dreams in order to help others, and whose imminent suicide on Christmas Eve brings about the intervention of his guardian angel, Clarence Odbody (Henry Travers). Clarence shows George all the lives he has touched and how different life in his community would be had he never been born.

“The Polar Express” is a movie about a doubting young boy who takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole. He embarks on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe.

Saturday Carriage Rides and Santa Visits in Dekalb

Enjoy a complimentary, old-fashioned horse-drawn carriage ride. The rides will depart from Frontier Communications, 225 E. Locust St., and go through downtown DeKalb. Sycamore/Rochelle Performing Arts Academy – Holiday Favorites

Watch beloved Christmas traditions and classic melodies come alive on the stage at the Performing Arts Academy’s winter production, “Holiday Favorites.” Students from the Elburn, Sycamore and Rochelle area will take the audiences on a holiday journey accompanied by exciting music from classic artists as well as modern hits. The Allegro Ballet of Oswego presents “A Nutcracker Fantasy.” It is the story of “The Nutcracker,” in which Clara and her family host the annual Christmas Eve party for all their friends and family but this year it was different. Clara’s mysterious Uncle Drosselmeyer casts a spell over Clara so when she falls asleep exhausted from her celebrating, she dreams of the most magical place. Go to sandwichoperahouse.org for more information.
