Anti-Slavery Movement in Black and White

In her talk “Anti-Slavery Movement in Black and White,” Jeanne Schultz Angel explores the role that the Underground Railroad played in the lives of Freedom Seekers and explains how one particular story illustrates connections within the network across the state. Genoa-Kingston Education Foundation Trivia Night

$5 per person entry fee 

Teams can include up to six people. Proceeds go into the mini-grant fund awarded to G-K teachers for items above and beyond their regular budget.

Museum Fundraiser 

7 p.m. 

St. Mary’s Memorial Hall, 322 Waterman St., Sycamore 

$20 per person 

The Sycamore History Museum’s annual winter fundraiser will feature “John Deere” portrayed by Brian “Fox” Ellis. Deere moved to Illinois and invented the first commercially successful steel plow in 1837. Guests will have a chance to test their knowledge of John Deere with a trivia game, and enjoy desserts from that time period. For more information, visit sycamorehistory.org.

 

 

Feb. 18 

Beach Terrarium Workshop 

10 a.m-noon 

Blumen Gardens, 403 Edward St., Sycamore 

Cost includes one 8-inch fishbowl terrarium, two beach miniatures, colored shells, sand, beach glass 

Get out of the winter doldrums and create a vacation-inspired terrarium filled with a beach theme. Blumen designers will assist participants in planning and designing a creative terrarium to enjoy at home. All ages are welcome. Dad’s and Hero’s Dance

$25, per resident couple; $30, per non-resident couple; $10 per extra child

A representative from Elder Care Services will assist with Medicare questions. Those who are turning 65 or who have questions about their current coverage, prescription coverage (Extra Help), Medicare supplement plans or Medicare Advantage plans, can stop by for help. The representative also can assist with the Benefit Access application (reduced license plate sticker) and other programs. No appointment is necessary. All services are free.
