The 11th annual Let’s Dance Big Band Weekend, a three-day event, will be held in the Duke Ellington Ballroom on the Northern Illinois University campus. The event provides live dance bands, with 10 to 17 pieces, for fans and social ballroom dancers to enjoy. Catered food will be served. Advance package deals, including hotel reservations, are available. At-door registration will be accepted 30 minutes prior to each scheduled dance. Lessons will be given. Waterman SummerFest and Tractor Show

Antique tractors, kids’ tractor pull and craft vendors will be at the annual Waterman event. Some other highlights include: 10 a.m. adult tractor pull; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. children’s events; live music starting at 3 p.m.; 9:15 p.m. fireworks. Kardboard Boat Regatta

Kingston’s annual festival features rides, food, a 5K run and the crowd favorite, Kingston Kardboard Boat Regatta – a water race consisting of full-size boats made entirely of cardboard. Entry is limited to the first 24 participants. The race is held on the Kishwaukee River at Kingston Township Park. Cash prizes will be awarded. What a good match: The library needs volunteers and you need service hours for Scouts or to graduate. If you volunteer at the library July 19 or July 26 during Summer Reading, you will receive a letter noting the number of service hours you completed. You may get a letter of recommendation for a job and/or a college application. Every four hours of volunteering earns an extra entry into the Summer Reading grand prize drawing. Also, any time spent volunteering during Library Legionnaires hours will earn an invitation to the Library Legionnaires Thank You Party. Volunteers may work in groups with friends.
