July 6

Baby and Me Playgroup
10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Sycamore Public Library, 103 E. State St., Sycamore

Baby and Me Playgroup meets the first Friday of the month. Toys, board books and musical instruments will be available for use. This program takes place in the library’s Activity Room. Drop-ins welcome.

Gentle Yoga
12 p.m.
Northern Rehab Physical Therapy Specialists, 3266 Sycamore Road, DeKalb

Gentle Yoga is a beginner yoga class. Participants can expect to have an interactive, fun and relaxing yoga experience. Yoga mats will be provided, but feel free to bring one. Call (815) 756-8524 to reserve a spot or for more information.

July 7

Sandwich Summer Days
6-11 p.m.
Route 34 Pub and Grub, 1201 E. Church St., Sandwich

The Route 34 Pub and Grub will host the second event for Sandwich Summer Days. Good Time Hobo will perform from 6-8 p.m., and Back Country Roads will perform from 8-11 p.m. The event will be held in the restaurant’s parking lot.

July 8

Sunday at Sandwich Antique Mall
8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Sandwich Fairgrounds, 1401 Suydam Road, Sandwich
$5, free for children 12 and under

Shop for antiques, collectibles, re-purposed, industrial, garden and artisan items. The market is held rain or shine. Food will be available. Parking is free.

July 9

Science of Sound
4 p.m.
Sycamore Public Library, 103 E. State St., Sycamore

Enjoy experiments, wonder and fun with Steve Belliveau. His show uses humor, music, audience participation and experiments that are designed to evoke wonder and laughter and inspire children. The program is for children 5 and older. No signup is required.

July 10

July After Hours
4:30-7 p.m.
Pen’s Point Market, 1600 E. Lincoln Hwy., DeKalb

The party is being hosted by OC Creative, Redeemed Office and the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the two companies’ move to new offices. The event will have a puppies petting zoo, bowling, massages, a doughnut ring toss, photo booth, kettle corn, a food truck, caricature, balloon and henna tattoo artists, live music and other activities. 

Family Game Night
6:30-10 p.m.
The Gaming Goat, 229 E. Lincoln Hwy., DeKalb

Family Game Night is a casual, family-friendly event. Moms, dads, children, singles and couples are all welcome.

Story Time
10 a.m.
Maple Park Public Library, 302 Willow St., Maple Park

Read some books, sing songs and play games and do a simple craft. All activities are designed for toddlers and preschool age children. Siblings are welcome.

Geocache Treasure Hunt
12 p.m.
Sandwich Public Library, 925 S. Main St., Sandwich

Explore Sandwich in search of geocache sites. Work together as a group and navigate specific GPS coordinates to find five hidden caches around town.

Music in the Park Concert Series
5-7 p.m.
Veteran’s Park, 143 E. Railroad St., Sandwich

Barrelhouse Blend will perform. Concert-goers are invited to bring a blanket and sit and enjoy the music.

Books and Barks

Food for Thought: A Tale of Apples and Oranges

From Artic apples to citrus greening-resistant oranges, genetic modification is protecting our produce from blight, pests and possible extinction. Join Dr. Joel Stafstrom, a plant expert in the Northern Illinois University Department of Biological Sciences, to learn how GMOs are made, regulated and tested.
