Girls who are interested in animation, computers, virtual worlds or video games are invited to attend “Just for Girls: Video Game Design” June 11-15 at Northern Illinois University’s Founders Memorial Library, 217 Normal Road, DeKalb. Cost is $250.

Musical Mornings with Angie Carter is a special circle time program for children of all abilities, developed especially for children up to the age of 3. The 30-minute program encourages play while building self-awareness and awareness of others, listening skills, communication skills, trust and movement. Throughout each session, children are encouraged to explore their own abilities in a safe environment with their parents and siblings. Carter is a board-certified music therapist and developmental therapist.

Young dancers from the Beth Fowler School of Dance of Genoa and St. Charles will perform in “Fame & More.” The first part of the show tells the story, “Fame,” about teenage dancers, musicians and actors attending the New York School of Performing Arts trying to follow their dreams and reach stardom and fame. “Fame” celebrates maturing, honing talent, confronting realities and living life. High energy and award-winning jazz, hip hop, contemporary, lyrical, tap and creative pieces are the “and More” part of the production.

Civil War Photography

This program is a presentation on the history and use of wet plate photography during the Civil War. The audience will learn about the history of the birth of photography, famous 19th century photographers such as Louis Daguerre and Matthew Brady and a description of the wet plate photographic process. A wet plate 1850s box camera will be demonstrated. This program is appropriate for both adults and younger audiences (grade 4 and up). Audience participation is encouraged, and includes dressing up participants in period clothing to sit for a Civil War-style photograph. No registration required.

Just for Girls: Video Game Design

Designed for students entering 5th – 9th grade in the fall. Campers will get to meet and interact with women who develop video games. Register at registeruo.niu.edu. Join in some summer fun when Rylie Roubal from the Hinckley Public Library will demonstrate how to make slime. Each participant will get to make two kinds of slime. All supplies will be provided.
