The Activity Committee of the Sycamore Vets Club invites the community to a corned beef and cabbage dinner from 5-7 p.m. March 16 at the Sycamore Vets Club, 121 S. California St., Sycamore. The dinner benefits the children and grandchildren of local veterans.

March 15

“Back to the Future”

In this 1980s sci-fi classic, small-town California teen Marty McFly is thrown back into the ’50s when an experiment by his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown goes awry. Traveling through time in a modified DeLorean car, Marty encounters young versions of his parents and must make sure that they fall in love or he’ll cease to exist. Even more dauntingly, Marty has to return to his own time and save the life of Doc Brown.

“A Storybook Ballet”

The Beth Fowler Dance Company will perform its new original ballet, “A Storybook Ballet.” Young Marie is too excited to sleep so her mother reads her a bedtime storybook. After her mother tucks her into bed and leaves, little fairies fly in as Marie’s bedroom transforms into Snow White’s Forest. The storybook characters emerge from the pages telling the stories of Snow White, Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast. Go to egyptiantheatredekalb.ticketforce.com to purchase tickets.

Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner
5-7 p.m.
Sycamore Vets Club, 121 S. California St., Sycamore
$10 in advance, $12 at the door, free for children under 8

The Activity Committee of the Sycamore Vets Club invites the community to a corned beef and cabbage dinner benefiting the children and grandchildren of local veterans. The menu will include corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, roll and dessert. The meal is dine-in or carry-out. Entertainment will be provided by the Firefighters Highland Guard of DeKalb playing bagpipes and drums during dinner. Book Recycling and Donation Drop-off
9 a.m.-5 p.m.

The Sycamore Public Library accepts larger donations of new and used books and other materials at the Circulation Desk on the third Saturday of each month. Books in need of recycling may be dropped off at this time as well. Receipts for the tax-exempt donations may be obtained at the Circulation Desk.

AARP Free Tax Aid
9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
DeKalb Public Library, 309 Oak St., DeKalb

AARP Tax-Aide volunteers will assist taxpayers with their tax returns. Bring a photo ID, all tax documents and last year’s tax return. Assistance is provided on a first come, first serve basis. For additional information, contact the Reference Desk at (815) 756-9568, ext. 2150 or dkplref@dkpl.org.

Video Game Club

Teens and tweens are invited to join the Video Gaming Club run by the Gaming Goat. Try new or retro games each week. Tournaments are held and Gift card prizes awarded.
