Sponge-Painted Butterfly Craft

Household Hazardous Waste Drive

The DeKalb County Farm Bureau will collect household hazardous waste as a way to keep hazardous waste out of landfills, where its presence can eventually harm area drinking supplies.

This event is for DeKalb County residents. Proof of residency will be needed, and participation is limited to the first 200 cars that arrive at the collection site. Items that will be accepted for recycling include oil-based paint, paint thinner, herbicides, pesticides, pool chemicals, antifreeze and hobby chemicals. Items that will not be accepted include car batteries, tires, explosives, sharps and needles and biohazardous waste. Electronics will not be accepted at this event. Book Recycling and Donation Drop-off

The Sycamore Public Library accepts larger donations of new and used books and other materials at the Circulation Desk on the third Saturday of each month. Recyclable books may be dropped off at this time as well. Receipts for the tax-exempt donations may be obtained at the Circulation Desk.

The Sycamore Depot Light Show

This year’s Light Show will feature an indoor DeKalb County by Drone show. Displayed on the interior walls of The Freight Room, this 30-minute show will fly viewers through DeKalb County, capturing the beauty and highlights of the community. Starting at dusk, the walls of the Depot will be lit, featuring the work of NIU Time Arts students and NIU Associate Professor Bart Woodstrup.

Made in America – A Tribute to Toby Keith

From the creators of Suburban Cowboys comes a full-length tribute concert to the “Big Dog Daddy” himself, Toby Keith. This 11-piece band mirrors Toby’s touring band, Easy Money. Toby is portrayed by longtime Chicago musician Paul Wenzel, who channels Toby’s onstage persona. With special guest Caldean, a Jason Aldean tribute band.

Kishwaukee Concert Band Spring Concert

The Kishwaukee Concert Band is made up of volunteer musicians over the age of 18 who have played a wind or percussion instrument in the past, and enjoy playing. The band performs traditional and contemporary concert band music. For more information, visit the band’s website, kishconcertband.org.

Crime Safety and Self-Defense Program

This program will teach how to recognize and avoid dangerous situations, use voice and language for self-defense and to escape from attackers. The seminars combine audience participation, demonstration of simple, effective self-defense techniques and personal safety tips to accelerate learning and increase retention. The instructor is Joe Rosner, a crime prevention and self-defense expert with military, law enforcement and professional bodyguard experience.

Basic CPR skills Training
5-9 p.m.
DeKalb Fire Department’s Station One, 700 Pine St., DeKalb

Residents wishing to become certified in basic CPR skills can do so by taking this class to be conducted by the DeKalb Fire Department. First aid training includes treating bites and stings, open wounds, burns, choking victims and other emergency situations. Participants also will receive defibrillator training. Attendees will perform some hands-on demonstrations and take a written exam. If they pass, they will be certified through the American Heart Association.
