Celebrating 47 years on the courthouse lawn, the Kishwaukee Valley Art League will hold its annual Northern Illinois Art Show June 2-3 at the DeKalb County Courthouse Lawn, 133 W. State St., Sycamore.

Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton star in this 1967 film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew.” A father is attempting to marry off his two daughters; however, he will marry off his youngest, Bianca, only if someone will marry his eldest, Katharina, a strong-willed woman. This movie showing is anticipation of the live theater event, Stone Soup Shakespeare presents “The Taming of the Shrew,” June 1.

Bring a picnic and enjoy Stone Soup Shakespeare’s rendition of the comedy, “The Taming of the Shrew.” In the case of inclement weather, the program will be held in the Yusunas Meeting Room at the DeKalb Public Library, 309 Oak St.

Movies in the Parks

Disney’s “The Lion King” will be the first movie of the summer, when DeKalb, Sycamore and Sandwich park districts host a Friday family movie in the park three Fridays a month.  The movie location will rotate among the three park districts. Bring a picnic, lawn chairs and blankets. The movie will begin at dusk, but come early for pre-movie activities.

June 2

Electronics Recycling Collection

This collection is open to DeKalb County residents; proof of address is required.

Office equipment and products, small home appliances and improvement products and home entertainment items and computers and peripherals will be accepted for recycling. Northern Illinois Art Show

Celebrating 47 years on the courthouse lawn, the Kishwaukee Valley Art League will hold its annual Northern Illinois Art Show. This two-day juried show features 60 to 70 artisans exhibiting fine arts and crafts in a variety of mediums including watercolor, oil painting, pencil sketching, fabric, woodworking, pastels, photography, ceramics, fused glass and other three-dimensional media. Art League members also offer a group exhibit with all media.

June 4-Aug. 23

DeKalb Park District’s Summer Camp Season
7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays
Littlejohn Elementary School, 1121 School St., and Hopkins Park Shelter, 1403 Sycamore Road, DeKalb
$1,240 for 10 weeks or $124 per week

June 5

Alex’s Lemonade Stand

Alex’s Lemonade Stand is a national organization that hosts lemonade stands all over the country to raise money for children’s cancer research. SPLAG will be fundraising all day at the library. Enjoy lemonade and lemon flavored treats. At 2 p.m., a lemon-themed story time and lemon-themed activities and crafts will be held in the children’s area.
