St. Olaf Band Performance

The internationally renowned St. Olaf Band will perform in DeKalb as part of its 2018 national tour. Founded in 1891, The St. Olaf Band, dubbed “one of America’s preeminent bands” by The New Yorker, performs the very best compositions and transcriptions for symphonic band, producing an exciting, crowd-pleasing style. Kishwaukee YMCA Halloween Bash

$1 in advance, $5 at the door

The Kishwaukee YMCA invites families to dress in costumes and attend its annual Halloween Bash. The event will feature the popular Fear Factor room, a haunted house, crafts, games for a variety of ages, sport activities and prizes. The DeKalb Public Library will be on stage sharing spooky stories. Early tickets can be purchased at the Kishwaukee Family YMCA, 2500 Bethany Road, Sycamore, or online at kishymca.org.

Egyptian Theatre Flashlight Tour

Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St., DeKalb
$20, $15 for students and senior citizens

Join Egyptian Theatre staff as they provide a tour of the historic Egyptian Theatre using just flashlights. Guests will be treated to a behind-the-scenes backstage tour which will highlight the haunted history of the theater. This is the tour that reveals all the secrets and lets you go places the public has never seen. 3-D Design

Just in time for Halloween, children ages 8 and up are invited to learn how to use TinkerCAD to customize a 3D designed pumpkin. The design will be printed out after class and the library will give each participant a flicking tea light to give each jack o’ lantern just the right amount of spooky glow. The finished pumpkin will measure around 3-inches tall by 3-inches around. Seating is limited, and enrollment begins in the Nancy D. Castle Collaboration Studio 15 minutes before the class starts. Richard Jenkins Film Series

This film series is showing nine of DeKalb native Richard Jenkins’ movies. Jenkins chose the films for the series from his body of work. He is an Emmy award winner and two-time Academy Award nominee, with 111 film credits. The Oct. 23 selection is “Norman.” The film tells the story of Norman Long, a self-aware and darkly funny teen who is trying to handle his daily high school existence. An unexpected set of life-changing circumstances turns his world upside down and then ultimately right side up as he meets the magnetic Emily. With love, humility and a heavy dose of truth, he emerges to face some rather adult challenges. Richard Jenkins plays Norman’s terminally ill father.
