Kishwaukee United Way’s annual Day of Caring is an organized day of service during which volunteers visit and assist and complete projects at a variety of local non-profit agencies. Each agency submits requests for volunteer help with projects such as reading to children, delivering meals to the elderly, repairing and painting houses and planting gardens. Project locations vary. The Sycamore Summer Concert Series presents Swing Forward, which covers hit songs by today’s pop stars in a swinging jazz style. Tunes by the likes of Bruno Mars, Paramore, Sam Smith and Robin Thicke are given a retro remake echoing the jazz era of the 1940s. The Maple Park American Legion Post holds its monthly all-you-can-eat fish and chicken buffet. The public is invited. Menu includes chicken, cod, shrimp and smelt. Drinks and side dishes available.
Sandwich Lions Club Car Show

An anticipated 100 or more entries are expected to be on display at the Sandwich Lions Club Car Show. Musical entrainment will be provided by Carousel Sound Company.

The 16th annual Folk Music Fest lineup: Dave Balika and Friends, 12-12:45 p.m.; Ordinary Folk, 1-2:45 p.m.; Jim Kanas with Annie Kincaid, 3-4:45 p.m. Crafting activities for children will be provided by the DeKalb Public Library, and Chicago-style hot dogs, baked goods, cold drinks and buttons will be for sale to raise funds to maintain one of DeKalb’s oldest homes as a gathering place and historic site.

Guided Walking Tour: Main Street

Steven Bigolin will lead a guided walking tour of Sycamore’s Main Street. He will highlight the architecture and local history connected to the homes along Main Street. Stops on the walk will include the Townsend House (currently the Paper Doll House) and carriage house (Willow’s Hometown Cafe), the Boyton House, the DeKalb County Courthouse and Rick Turner’s law office.

Kuipers’ Farm Discovery Camp

Give your 6- to 12-year-old child a taste of what it is like to grow up on a farm. Each week campers will be able to experience activities that take place in a family’s farm environment. The camp experiences have been fashioned so that science, engineering, math and the arts are naturally integrated to create learning opportunities in a country environment. Each session is different.
