Disco Demolition: The Night Disco Died

The museum’s widely popular Disco Demolition exhibits closes Dec. 31. Disco Demolition Night exploded on July 12, 1979, in the middle of a White Sox doubleheader and it remains one of the city’s most controversial sports history moments. Experience the interactive exhibit inspired by the book by Steve Dahl with journalist Dave Hoekstra and photographer Paul Natkin. Gain an understanding of the culture and history of the era by viewing a detailed timeline of the day, take a disco vs. rock quiz, check out artifacts from Dahl’s personal collection, view a custom-made guitar on loan from Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen, see the uniform jersey worn by White Sox catcher Mike Colbern on Disco Demolition night, watch excerpts from the 25th anniversary documentary and more.

The animals may be hibernating, but the arboretum still has gnomes. The public is invited to look to see if they can find all of them hiding in the Children’s Garden.

Illumination at Morton Arborteum

The grounds of The Morton Arboretum are again glowing with luminous, multi-colored LED light, mesmerizing projections, and trees that respond to touch and sound, as Illumination: Tree Lights at The Morton Arboretum returns for its fifth year. New this year is the chance to become part of the Illumination experience by donning interactive pendants that glow in sync with the sights as sounds of Illumination as visitors travel the trail. Pendants are available for purchase online and on-site at Illumination. Parking is included in the admission fee.

1917: Catalyst for the Modern Era

One period in American History stands out as a beacon of change in the county. Changes in technology, medicine, and the aftermaths of the Great War divisively changed American culture and lead to new beliefs on alcohol, women’s rights, and the role of the nation. The museum will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

A special party for children from the ages of 2-12 with lunch, a magic show and a mocktail toast at noon with a balloon drop. The admission fee will be donated to the DuPage County Area Project.
