The Glen Ellyn Halloween Festival will begin with a parade at 9:45 a.m. Oct. 28 and continue with trick-or-treating in Downton Glen Ellyn from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Local Elmhurst musicians perform in the galleries of the art museum on the last Friday of the month.

Oct. 28

Boo-tiful Saturday
9:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

The free showing of “Minions” at the York Theatre at 9:30 a.m. will kick off Elmhurst’s Boo-tiful Saturday. Trick or treat at participating City Centre businesses from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dance to a DJ and get free balloon animals in the City Centre Plaza 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free Halloween craft centers will be set up south of the tracks at the southeast corner of York and Park and north of City Hall at the southeast corner of York and Third from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Downtown Glen Ellyn

The parade will begin at the Prairie Path, east of Forest Avenue, and will go down Main Street from Hillside to Crescent. In addition to trick-or-treating, craft activities and live musical performances are planned. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The public is requested to bring food donations for the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry.

Harvest Festival Fundraiser for Food Pantry

Grace Lutheran Church will host its first Harvest Festival Fundraiser in support of the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry, located at Grace Church. The Harvest Festival coincides with the Glen Ellyn Spooktakular Halloween Parade and all village activities. Trunk-or-Treat

St. John Lutheran Early Learning Center, 7214 S. Cass Ave., Darien

Families are invited to bring their children in costume for treats, games and surprises in the trunks of seasonally decorated vehicles in the learning center’s traffic-free parking lot. Activities will be moved inside if the weather is inclement.

Oct. 29

Halloween Hop
10 a.m.-noon
Downtown Naperville
Free

Calling all costumed characters, ghouls, goblins, witches and super heroes. More than 50 downtown businesses will open early and the Halloween Trolley will circle downtown offering complimentary rides for costumed kids and their parents. The trolley will travel a continual loop and riders can hop on board and off at one of five locations for free. Check in at Main and Jefferson for a map of participating businesses and a goodie.

The Uncanny Muslim: Real and Imagined in America

Hussein Rashid, is the founder of islamicate, L3C, a consultancy focusing on religious literacy and cultural competency, will speak. His work includes exploring theology, the interaction between culture and religion, and the role of the arts in conflict mediation. He is a fellow with the American Muslim Civic Leadership Institute and works with the Children’s Museum of Manhattan as a content expert for their “America to Zanzibar” exhibit.

Actor, writer and comedian Denis Leary will talk about his new book, “Why We Don’t Suck,” a searing comic look at these divisive times, skewering liberals and conservatives alike with a signature dose of sarcasm and common sense. This conversation, moderated by Anderson Bookshop, will be followed by a question-and-answer segment. Ticketholders will get a pre-signed book.
