Lions Club Reindeer Run will be held at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 3 in Downtown Wheaton. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Ronald McDonald House near Northwestern Medicine in Winfield.

Dec. 2 

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony 

5 p.m. 

Addison Village Hall, 1 Friendship Plaza, Addison 

Free 

Santa will arrive at 5 p.m., visitors will take sleigh rides, school children will sing carols and the tree lights will be turned on. Performers will be from Lake Park and Stone elementary schools and Addison Trail High School Shades of Blue.

 

 

Dec. 2 

Holly Days 

6-8 p.m. 

Warrenville Park District, 3S260 Warren Ave., Warrenville 

Free 

Santa will arrive with a parade. The mayor will light the city’s holiday tree. There will be horse-drawn carriage rides, performances of holiday songs, music and performing arts by local community and school groups, free hot chocolate and cookies. Pizza, pop and water will be available for purchase.

“Home Alone”

Audiences can enjoy “Home Alone,” a story about an 8-year old troublemaker who must protect his home from a pair of burglars when he is accidentally left home alone by his family during Christmas vacation.

Attendees will take a hayride around the farm, then come in and warm up with hot chocolate and desserts inside the 1920s farmhouse while enjoying the sounds of the holiday season with instrumental music performed by the York High School Brass Quintet. Heroes on Deck

The documentary, “Heroes on Deck: World War II on Lake Michigan,” sheds light on a little-known training operation conducted by the U.S. Navy on Lake Michigan during World War II. Between 1942 and 1945, following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the Navy trained nearly 15,000 pilots, including 41st President George H.W. Bush, to land and take off from two makeshift aircraft carriers – the Seaandbee and Greater Buffalo – in the safety of landlocked Lake Michigan.
