13th annual Battle of the Bands

4-8 p.m.

Community Concert Center in Central Park, 104 E. Benton Ave., Naperville

Free

High school rock bands will compete in the Naperville Park District Youth Ambassadors’ 13th annual Battle of the Bands. Nine bands will compete as finalists based on their applications and the quality of their demo recordings. Students who will perform are from Neuqua Valley, Metea, Naperville North and Naperville Central high schools.

Addison Park District Park Pride and Recycling Extravaganza

9-11:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

From 9-11:30 a.m., volunteer will help get parks ready for spring by spreading mulch and planting flowers. They will receive lunch and a T-shirt. Tools and work gloves will be provided. To volunteer, call (630) 233-7275. Bring recyclable items, such as electronics, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. to the Community Rec Center parking lot. Also accepted will be old American flags, eyeglasses, hearing aids, bikes, lightbulbs and crayons. Paper shredding service will be provided.

Cardboard Boat Building Seminar

If you think you want to compete in the Lake Ellyn Cardboard Regatta, the Glen Ellyn Park District invites you to attend one of two free boat building seminars conducted by previous year’s regatta champions. Seminars will be held May 7 and May 14. Pre-registration is required. Call (630) 858-2463.
