NAPERVILLE

Naper Settlement new home of Christmas tradition

Chicago’s popular Christkindlmarket will have a second home this holiday season at historic Naper Settlement.

Christkindlmarket is a traditional German holiday market known for its wooden huts filled with one-of-a-kind gifts including woodcarvings and German delicacies reminiscent of the original Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremburg, Germany, which began in 1545.

The Christkindlmarket Naperville will transform the village square at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St., into a picturesque marketplace. The market will open Nov. 25 and run on 21 select days until Dec. 24. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. Special openings will be held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 19-23 and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Christmas Eve.

Welcome to Naperville, wealthiest Midwest municipality

A new analysis shows Naperville to be the wealthiest city or village in the Midwest. The study was done by NerdWallet, an online personal finance education service.

To figure out the rankings, NerdWallet analyzed cities with at least 65,000 people and looked at the median household income, percent of homes without a mortgage, monthly median home value and the average credit limit for card holders.

Naperville has a median household income of $104,419 and a median home price of $364,300. A total of 23 percent of homes had no mortgage and the average credit limit was $67,075. Those stats gave Naperville a score of 93.06, placing it in the No. 1 spot in the Midwest.
