Robert M. Scholl, 42, of the 4N block of Locust Avenue, West Chicago, and previously of Chicago, was sentenced Friday, May 13, 2016, by Associate Judge David Kliment, to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Scholl was convicted Jan. 22, 2016, of aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony, and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor. Scholl waived his right to a jury trial.

State’s Attorney’s Office Logo SMALLKane County prosecutors presented evidence that at about 7 a.m. May 22, 2014, Scholl, the victim and a toddler were in a vehicle that was on the entrance ramp off northbound Route 31 onto eastbound Interstate 90 in Elgin. Scholl was the driver, the victim was in the front passenger seat and the toddler was in the back. Scholl and the victim were arguing.

Scholl stropped the car on the shoulder, got out and walked to the passenger side, opened the door, struck the victim with his hands and tried to pull the victim out of the car. A witness saw the victim hanging out of the car, screaming for help. The witnessed stopped, got out of her car and yelled at Scholl to stop. Scholl went to the driver’s side of his car to retrieve some belongings and then fled on foot. Scholl was arrested June 1 on a warrant.

During the sentencing hearing, Kliment cited Scholl’s significant criminal history, which includes a conviction for aggravated battery, multiple drug-related convictions, a weapon conviction, a burglary conviction, and multiple convictions for driving without a license.

17-year-old Marmion student dies after falling off vehicle

Aurora police are investigating a single-vehicle accident in which a 17-year-old Marmion Academy student suffered fatal injuries from falling off of a vehicle’s running board.

Stephen J. Woodcock, 17, of the 4N300 block of Booth Tarkington Street, St. Charles, died last week at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

He had been airlifted directly to Good Samaritan following the accident, which occurred around 3:45 p.m., May 13, at Marmion Academy, located at 1000 Butterfield Road.

Woodcock was riding on the passenger side running board and holding onto the exterior of a 2011 Acura MDX being driven by Jerin Martin, 18, of the 3000 block of Elleby Court, North Aurora, which was eastbound in the school’s north parking lot. Martin told police he was driving around 10 mph and when he made a left turn, Woodcock apparently lost his grip and fell backward off the vehicle, striking the pavement and suffering head and other apparent injuries.

He was initially treated at the scene by Aurora Fire Department paramedics.

Martin, who is also a Marmion student, was cited for reckless driving. The investigation is continuing and other charges have not been ruled out.
