Aurora University’s hockey team (35-2-1) has earned a trip to the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division III national tournament March 11-15 at the Florida Panthers’ IceDen in Coral Gables.
Aurora will open round-robin pool play against Davenport University on Tuesday, March 11. Game time will be announced.
The Spartans advanced to the nationals after wins against the University of Nebraska (7-1) and Metropolitan State University of Denver (6-2) last weekend.
“We have come a long way in the program’s 15 short months,” said Head Coach Ryan Buchanan.
“We have a group of student-athletes who are committed to working hard both on and off the ice.”
“We are excited for the opportunity to compete for a national championship. It will be a great experience for our team and Aurora University.”
“We are very proud of what we have accomplished as a team,” said sophomore captain Sheldon Kihle.
“We were motivated and determined to make a statement going into the regional tournament. We are very excited to head to Florida for the tournament, another step on our journey to our final season goal.”
“Being the first recruited team for the Aurora University hockey program, we had a lot of expectations to live up to,” said freshman assistant captain Ben Stachowiak.
“Our closeness as a team on and off the ice has been a big part of our success this season.”
