The Aurora-based outdoor outlet mall debuted a major expansion this week with the official opening of 30 new stores, including an anchor Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th outlet.

The Outlet Mall, located on Farnsworth Road north of Interstate 88, also added 2,200 parking places, a pond and outdoor fireplaces and a new guest services center as part the expansion estimated at $110 million.

The 290,000 square foot expansion attracted a steady steam of customers on Thursday, with more expected during the center’s typically business weekends.

“Chicago Premium Outlets has been one of the country’s most successful outlet centers for more than a decade,” said Mark Silvestri, Chief Operating Officer for Simon Premium Outlets. “Today’s openings, along with new and expanded retailers debuting during the fourth quarter, will enhance this popular center as a must-shop destination for holiday 2015.”

Among brands that opened last week were Abercrombie & Fitch Outlet, American Eagle Outfitters, Clarins, Columbia Sportswear, Express Factory Outlet, The Fragrance Outlet, The Limited Outlet, The Luggage Factory, Mountain Warehouse, Old Navy Outlet, Robert Graham, Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th, Tommy Hilfiger Kids, UGG Australia, Vans and Vince.

Also opening are the Midwest’s first Rise Pies handcrafted pizzeria and one of the first suburban locations for Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises’ M Burger concept.

Additional stores, including the region’s first Wellensteyn Outlet, Corning Corelle & MPerhaps the most ballyhooed of Thursday’s openings is the Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5TH.

The new 21,524-square-foot store features a selection of more than 800 brands and designer finds for both men and women, all at up to 70 percent off.

“We are thrilled to open our doors and welcome shoppers to our brand new store in Aurora,” said Jonathan Greller, president of outlets, Hudson’s Bay Company. “As the fifth Saks OFF 5TH store in the state, we continue to see Illinois as a key market to support our expansion plans and to bring our in-store experience to more customers.”

Ground was broken in July 2014 for the expansion project, which brings available retail space at the 10-year-old center to around 688,000 square feet.
