State police to aid in investigation of fatal Delnor shooting

Help from the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force (PITF) has been requested by the Kane County Sheriff to investigate the use of force during an Officer Involved Shooting that occurred at Delnor Hospital, in Geneva last Saturday.

Kane County SWAT responded to a barricade hostage situation at Del nor Hospital in which Tywon Salters, a 21-year-old male from Chicago, held a nurse at gunpoint in a hospital room.

Negotiations between Kane County SWAT and Salters deteriorated and SWAT entered the hospital room to rescue the hostage victim. During entry, a Kane County SWAT member fired their weapon, fatally striking Salters.

Salters was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicated Salters took a weapon from a corrections officer, then held two nurses hostage during the incident. The weapon was recovered at the scene.

An autopsy will be scheduled by the Kane County Coroner.

This case remains an open and ongoing investigation. No further information was released at as of Sunday afternoon.
