Police to begin Slurpee Patrol

Oswego Police are again participating in 7-Eleven’s Operation Chill Program. This 7 ‐Eleven community outreach program is designed to reduce crime and enhance relations among 7-Eleven stores, police and youth during the hot summer months.

Operation Chill allows law enforcement officers to “ticket” kids they observe doing good deeds or exhibiting positive behavior. The ticket is actually a coupon for a free 12-oz. Slurpee semi-frozen carbonated beverage at any participating 7‐Eleven store, valid until the end of 2017.

Operation Chill, now in its 22nd year, has had more than 19 million coupons distributed by law enforcement agencies in the United States and Canada.

In addition to rewarding such positive behaviors as wearing bicycle helmets, doing good deeds, participating in community activities and organizations, observing street crossing rules, picking up trash and deterring crime, the program offers added opportunities for police officers to interact with children and teens in a non-law enforcement situation and enhance their relationships with community youth.

Though the reasons for being “ticketed” may vary, the end result is the same for every youngster: a free Slurpee drink and a smile.

Village launches #GoOswego branding campaign

The Village of Oswego is launching of #GoOswego, a new initiative to attract residents and visitors to Oswego, and to accelerate local economic development.

#GoOswego’s aim is to build Oswego’s image across the Chicago region as a forward thinking, business friendly regional entertainment destination where residents and visitors gather in an engaging natural environment.

The #GoOswego initiative is centered on a new website at www.GoOswego.org, which will be promoted throughout the summer with billboards and social media marketing. This new website highlights special events and other fun things to do in Oswego.

The #GoOswego initiative kicks off at the Oswegoland Park District’s PrairieFest this weekend.

The #GoOswego initiative includes a new regional branding logo used to market all of Oswego’s special events, including those sponsored by the Village and other community organizations. The new marketing logo and website will also be aimed at attracting new residents and businesses to Oswego. Phase two of the website rollout will include more information on shopping, dining, attractions and overnight stays.

Over the last year, a team of Village Staff and Board Members worked with an expert consulting team, Business District, Inc., to determine our regional brand identity. The goal of the team was to set Oswego apart from surrounding communities; enhancing marketplace visibility and investor awareness; and facilitating social and professional connections.
