There may only be a few official weeks left of summer, but folks at Oswego’s newly-opened Andy’s Frozen Custard are confident that milder weather won’t keep customers away.

“Pumpkin pie season is starting, and that’s our biggest seasonal item with the most hype,” said the Oswego location’s District Manager Ann Sanders.

With a slice of homemade pumpkin pie in every one of Andy’s famous concrete mixers, the treat is a pumpkin lover’s dream, Sanders said.

“I’m a big pumpkin person and this is hands down the best seasonal pumpkin treat there is,” she said.

But, custard lovers aren’t waiting until fall to get their Andy’s fix. The new custard joint opened last week in Oswego at 1272 Route 34, next to LA Fitness, to rave reviews.

Sanders said a soft opening held on Aug. 22 – 23 drew crowds and lines as eager diners got a sneak peak of the menu, which includes creamy concrete mixers and sundaes. The shop officially opened for business on Aug. 24.

Andy’s has no indoor seating, but has several benches out front to gather at. Customers order from outside and their concoctions are made and handed through the ordering windows. Drive-thru service is also available. But, you should probably decide to what to order before you arrive, as the options are seemingly endless.

The Jitterbug Concrete is a concoction of Andy’s vanilla or chocolate frozen custard blended with espresso, Heath Bar and almonds.

The Rico Suave Jackhammer features Andy’s vanilla or chocolate frozen custard blended with roasted pecans and Oreos, with a center filled with hot fudge.

There are shakes, and freezes and old-fashioned sodas. Something for everyone, really, Sanders said.

It was December 2015 when developers came to the village with plans of opening the custard shop. Four months later, ground was broken at the site. Since then, customers have been craving to get their hands on some custard.

And, even with summer nearing its end, the excitement is still there.

“We’ve got a few months of nice weather ahead of us still,” Sanders said. And, even when that ends, there are seasonal drinks featured year-round to draw customers in.

Egg nog, candy cane, apple and pumpkin pie specialty treats are offered to highlight particular seasons.

Come spring, fresh blueberries, blackberries and peaches are featured on the menu.

According to the Andy’s Frozen Custard website, there are multiple job positions that are still up for grabs. Store managers, assistant managers, shift supervisors and sales associates are still being sought. Sanders said there are approximately 27 employees currently working at the shop.

Positions are also available at Andy’s future Naperville location, which is expected to open soon at Route 59 and 95th Street.

A second Naperville location will likely open next year, Sanders said.

“It’s always been Andy’s dream to expand like this (in Northern Illinois). We’re a family-owned company, so it’s not like we have all of this force behind us,” Sanders said. “But, we’ve been able to put all tools in right spot, and we’re ready for expansion and excited for it.”
