Armed man robs Starbucks in Oswego
By Erika Wurst For Chronicle Media — June 20, 2016An armed man robbed the Oswego Starbucks early Monday morning, pointing a gun at employees and threatening to shoot if they didn’t hand over cash.
According to Oswego Police Department Spokesman Cathy Nevara, the robbery occurred around 5 a.m. at the coffee shop in the 2700 block of Route 34.
A man driving a Dodge Sedan pulled into the drive-thru, brandished a weapon, and demanded money, Nevara said.
Employees had just opened the Starbucks and handed over about $200 to the suspect, Nevara said. She said she doesn’t believe any customers were in the shop at the time of the robbery.
After securing the cash, the suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction.
The suspect was described as a white man in his mid-30s, Nevara said . The man had a heavy build, short red hair, and a Southern accent. He was wearing a green shirt, she said.
Nevara said police are still trying to determine the color of the suspect’s vehicle, and are looking into gathering surveillance camera footage taken during the robbery.
The Starbucks remained closed Monday morning as Oswego police continued their investigation.
