Aurora 

Police search for pizza shop robber 

Aurora police are hoping someone knows something about an armed robbery that occurred May 18 at a pizza restaurant in the first block of W. New York St.

Around 12:05 a.m., A white male, 5’5″ to 6’2″ weighing between 150 and 200 lbs., with his head concealed and wearing a blue windbreaker, entered the business, pointed a handgun at an employee and demanded cash.

The employee fled to the rear of the business and hid while a second employee who was already in the back of the store, ran outside. The offender left without taking anything and was last seen running eastbound on New York.

There were no injuries.

FVOAS raffle tickets available 

Get tickets for the 2017 Fox Valley Older Adult Services (FVOAS) Annual Draw Down as soon as possible. Only 250 tickets are sold for this annual fundraiser.

There is one $1,000 Grand Prize winner, one $300 winner, one $100 winner and 12 winners of $250. Winning ticket holder need not be present at the annual fundraiser dinner on Thursday, June 29 at 5:30 p.m. at Fox Valley Community Center, 1406 Suydam Road, Sandwich.

Delicious Hors d’oeuvres will be served. A cash bar is available. Drawing will begin at 6:30 p.m. Dennis O’Connell, long time donor and supporter of FVOAS, orchestrates this annual event.

Peace Keepers, Inc. announces scholarships

The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association in partnership with Peace Keepers, Inc. announces that it will be awarding college scholarships throughout the State of Illinois to Law Enforcement or Military dependents wishing to pursue higher education during the 2017-18 academic years.

The scholarships are to be applied to tuition, books, and fees only. The student must be enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning within the State of Illinois.

There will be no restriction on any applicant by reason of race, age, creed, color, sex, or national origin.

The only limitations are as follows:

— Applicants must be permanent Illinois residents

— Scholarships must be utilized at institutions of higher learning within the State of Illinois

— Students must be enrolled as a full-time student during the 2017-18 school years. (excluding summer session)

— Applicants must be dependents of active duty or retired Law Enforcement or Law Enforcement killed in line of duty death or dependents of active duty military, active military reserve, active National Guard or a member killed in action

Applications are now available at the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, 1102 Cornell Lane, Yorkville, Illinois 60560 or on the website for Kendall County @ www.co.kendall.il.us/sheriff or on the ISA website www.ilsheriff.org.

Students must complete the application; answer the essay question and return all documentation to the Sheriff’s Office in their permanent county of residence by June 30.

Sheriff’s Office participates in FBI Task Force 

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office has begun partnering with the FBI by assigning a deputy to work on the Joint Terrorism Task Force.

This position focuses on Domestic Terrorism and will provide a strong working network between the Sheriff’s Office and numerous federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

Sheriff Dwight Baird explained, “It has always been my goal to evaluate and take part in cost effective measures to ensure that the citizens of Kendall County are provided with the highest level of service from its law enforcement. Our partnership with the FBI increases our resources and effectiveness in a unique and exciting way. The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office is proud to contribute to our country’s national security on a local level.”

The FBI describes JTTFs as “our nation’s front line on terrorism: small cells of highly trained, locally based, passionately committed investigators, analysts, linguists, SWAT experts, and other specialists from dozens of U.S. law enforcement and intelligence agencies.” JTTF investigators “chase down leads, gather evidence, make arrests, provide security for special events, conduct training, collect and share intelligence, and respond to threats and incidents at a moment’s notice.”

 Montgomery 

New trash service coming to village 

The Village Board has approved a new refuse contract with DC Trash that will begin August 1st.

In late July, DC Trash will deliver a 95-gallon trash cart and 65-gallon recycling cart to each home. If you prefer a different size, call (331) 212-9044 by July 7.

Smaller 35-gallon carts are also available. When you call, provide your name, address, what size trash cart you want and what size recycling cart. All three sizes of carts are on display at the Village Hall, so you can stop in to see which size you prefer.

Under the new contract, DC Trash will pick up unlimited trash and recycling each week. Unlimited tied bundles of brush and bags of yard waste can be disposed of each week from April 1 through the end of November. There is no need for stickers.

The new monthly rate will be $16.47 per household, compared to the current $19.65 per household.

This applies only the residential address in the Village of Montgomery, not Boulder Hill or other unincorporated areas.

 

Oswego 

 Talent Show auditions announced 

Open auditions for Oswego Senior Center’s Intergenerational Talent Show are being scheduled now for Wednesday, June 14 from 4-6 p.m., and Thursday, June 15 from 6-8 p.m..

Comedians, musicians, dancers and more will share their abilities the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 2.  There is no fee for auditioning or performing. Audience ticket prices the evening of the talent show are $5.

This fundraiser will take place at Oswego Senior Center, 156 E. Washington St. Talent times are limited, so please arrange your audition as soon as possible. Call Ruth at (630) 554-5602 or email volunteer@oswegoseniorcenter.org.

Soccer festival to impact local traffic 

The Oswego Police Department is reminding the public to expect increased traffic

congestion and delays on Friday, May 26 through Sunday, May 28, due to Oswego Soccer Festival activities taking place at PrairieFest Park on the grounds of Oswego High School. Motorists should expect delays in particular while traveling Route 71 between U.S. Route 34 and Forrest Avenue on Friday evening and on Saturday and Sunday between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Motorists may want to consider alternate routes around these areas if they are not coming in for the soccer festival.
