A 23-year-old Plano woman was killed Tuesday afternoon following a crash in Yorkville, police said.

The crash occurred around around 3 p.m. near the intersection of Route 47 and Cornelis Road in Yorkville, according to Yorkville police.

Police said the victim, Ashely Lopez, 400 block of Abe Street, Plano, was a passenger in a 2008 Nissan Altima that was being driven by Selma Martinez, 56, also of Plano.

Martinez was stopped in traffic in the northbound lane of Route 47 when her vehicle was rear-ended by a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Kyle Delhaye, 20, of South Elgin.

The impact of the crash caused both vehicles to leave the roadway, police said.

Lopez was pronounced dead after being transported to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

Martinez and Angela Lopez, 22, also of Plano, another passenger in the Altima, were taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora for treatment.

Delhaye was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
