Lake County 

 Nerheim to begin second term as State’s Attorney 

Lake County State’s Attorney Michael G. Nerheim recently was sworn in to begin his second term in office. After beginning his first term, in 2012, Nerheim developed a county-wide opioid prevention strategy and co-founded the Lake County Opioid Initiative. Nerheim also created a first-of-its-kind Case Review Panel to focus on the issue of wrongful convictions, as well as a Citizens Advisory Board comprised of a diverse group of community leaders who engage the public on key issues related to crime, public safety and restoring trust in the criminal justice system. In addition, Nerheim was awarded the 2016 Whitney M. Young Jr. Award on behalf of the Boy Scouts of America. He also was named the 2015 Justinian of the Year by the Illinois Crime Commission and the 2013 Person of the Year by the Hellenic Voters of America, among numerous other awards earned during his tenure.

 

 Lake County Board re-elects Lawlor as chairman 

The Lake County Board recently re-elected Aaron Lawlor as its chairman, marking his third term in the position. Lawlor was appointed to the Board in 2009, elected in 2010, and re-elected in 2012 and 2016. He also was elected chairman in 2012 and 2014. Lawlor also was sworn in to begin his fourth term representing District 18, which includes all of Vernon Hills and Indian Creek, as well as portions of Hawthorn Woods, Long Grove and unincorporated Lake County. In addition, the Lake County Board re-elected Carol Calabresa (District 15, Libertyville) as its vice-chairman.

 

 

Bannockburn 

Village offers Winter Hayride & Sing-A-Long event 

The 2016 Bannockburn Winter Hayride & Sing-A-Long will be held from 3-5:30 p.m. Dec. 18. The event — intended for Bannockburn students, residents, family members and guests — features horse-drawn wagon rides through the streets of the village, departing from the Open Space Shelter, 2245 Telegraph Road. Rides will depart at 30-minute intervals, and include cups of hot chocolate and sing-alongs during the ride. The last ride is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Admission is free. Long Grove 

 Village to hold public meeting on Krueger Road project 

The village announced that it will hold the North Krueger Road Proposed Improvements Open House from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Dec. 15 at Woodlawn Middle School, 6362 Gilmer Road. The informational public meeting is being held as part of the village’s efforts to solicit public input regarding planned improvements to North Krueger Road, including replacement of the existing 22-foot-wide roadway pavement plus an additional three feet of paved shoulder on each side to protect the edge of the pavement and provide a “safe harbor” buffer for drivers. Additional information on the project will be presented during the meeting, and attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide input. Lakemoor 

 Photo With Santa event to be held at library 

The village announced that it will host Photo With Santa from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 17 at the River East Public Library, 813 W. Route 120. The event features photo opportunities with Santa Claus, and includes punch and cookies. Children can make a holiday craft at the library or take it home. Admission is free. In addition, the library is accepting new, unwrapped toys as part of a Toys 4 Tots donation drive to support area families in need. Mundelein 

 Park & Rec Dist. earns fifth straight GOFA award 

The village reported that the Mundelein Park & Recreation District (MPRD) recently was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GOFA) of the United States and Canada. The certificate recognizes government organizations for their comprehensive

annual financial report (CAFR), and is considered the highest form of recognition for governmental accounting and financial reporting. This marks the fifth consecutive year that MPRD has earned the GOFA recognition. For more information, call (847) 949-3200 or visit www.mundelein.org.

 

Highland Park 

Senior Center offers Festival of Lights Luncheon 

The city announced that the Highland Park Senior Center will present its Festival of Lights Luncheon from noon to 2 p.m. Dec. 23 at the CJE SeniorLife Weinberg Community for Senior Living, 1551 Lake Cook Road, Deerfield. The event includes a kosher lunch featuring seared salmon with a variety of side dishes, including potato latkes and applesauce, as well as traditional music by the Maxwell Street Klezmer Trio. Each participant will receive a special goody bag, and facility tours will be available. Admission is $5 for Highland Park Senior Center members and $10 for non-members. Lake Forest 

 City to host public forum on Amtrak proposal 

The city announced that it will host a public forum for the purpose of discussing the Chicago-Milwaukee Amtrak Proposal and Environmental Assessment from 7-8:30 p.m. Dec. 19 at Gorton Community Center, 400 E. Illinois Road. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation and the Illinois Department of Transportation, in partnership with Amtrak, are proposing to increase passenger rail service between Chicago and Milwaukee on the existing Hiawatha service, as well as the construction of infrastructure improvements to support the increased frequency of service.
