Sysmex opens expanded manufacturing plant

The village reported that Sysmex America, Inc. (SAI), a leading provider of automated hematology and urinalysis diagnostic testing equipment, and middleware information systems technology, recently held a formal dedication ceremony for its expanded and newly modernized manufacturing facility, Sysmex Reagants America (SRA), located at 1 Sysmex Way. The $24 million expansion almost doubles the square footage and increases production capacity by nearly 80 percent. SAI distributes and supports a diverse portfolio of in-vitro diagnostic hematology and clinical laboratory products in the United States, Canada and Latin America. 1st Annual Fox Lake Fish Fest on tap

The Fox Lake Parks & Recreation Department will host the 1st Annual Fox Lake Fish Fest on Sept. 8 and 9. The event begins with the Mayor’s Fish Fry at 5 p.m. Sept. 8 at Lakefront Park, 71 Nippersink Blvd. The cost is $15 (per person) and $8 (ages 8 and under). Admission includes all-you-can-eat fish, two sides and a non-alcoholic beverage. Beer will be available for purchase. Fish Fest continues with the Fox Lake Youth Fishing Derby from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 9 at Lakefront Park. The event (for children ages 16 and under; parents are encouraged to attend) will begin with a fishing class/presentation, followed by the Fishing Derby. Prizes will be awarded in four categories: Largest Fish (weight), Smallest Fish (length), Ugliest Fish (judge’s decision) and Most Fish. Fishing equipment will be available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own, if possible. Children under age 16 are not required to have a fishing license. Admission is free. Deerfield

DBR Chamber to host Healthy Lifestyle Expo

The Deerfield-Bannockburn-Riverwoods (DBR) Chamber of Commerce will host the 14th Annual Healthy Lifestyle Expo from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Patty Turner Center, 375 Elm St. The event features more than 30 exhibitors with products and services for all ages, free samplings of healthy snacks, and various community organizations offering health and safety information. Flu shots will be available (administered by Walgreen’s), as well as free hearing screenings and health screenings (blood pressure and blood sugar). In addition, free document shredding (up to three grocery bags per person) will be available from 10 a.m. to noon. The event also includes entertainment and raffles. Admission is free. Nominations sought for Mayor’s Beautification Awards

The city announced that the Business and Economics Development Commission (BEDC) is accepting nominations for the Mayor’s 2017 Beautification Awards. The annual awards recognize Highland Park property owners and business owners that have made improvements to enhance visual appeal. Awards are presented in five categories: Retail, Restaurant, Auto Dealer, Service and Commercial/Mixed-Use Development. Award criteria includes facade and building appearance, cleanliness, window clarity, adherence to city code and landscaping. Award recipients will be granted a Mayoral Certificate and receive public recognition at a City Council meeting, as well as in The Highlander, Business Development eNews and on the city’s website. Fox River Grove

 Waitrovich gets nod as new Police Chief

The village announced that Eric Waitrovich has been appointed to the position of Police Chief of the Fox River Grove Police Department. Waitrovich will succeed current Police Chief Ron Lukasik, who will retire Sept. 1 after serving the department for 25 years. Waitrovich joined the department as a police officer in 2007 and was promoted to Sergeant in 2013. As Sergeant, he was responsible for managing the daily operations of the department, including oversight of training, scheduling and patrol-related functions. Waitrovich holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Saint Norbert College (Wis.), and is a graduate of the Police Staff and Command course at Northwestern University.

 

Grayslake

 Folk Club to host benefit concert for Heritage Center

The village announced that the Lake County Folk Club will host a benefit concert for the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum at 7 p.m. Sept. 3 at Grayslake Village Hall, 10 S. Seymour Ave. The concert will feature award-winning contemporary folk trio Brother Sun. Admission is $18, $15 (seniors) and $13 (Folk Club members). Lindenhurst

Johnson selected as new Village Manager

The village announced that Clay Johnson has been selected as Lindenhurst’s new Village Manager. Since 2014, Johnson has been serving as the first full-time City Administrator in downstate Lincoln. He previously served as Assistant Town Manager in Munster, Ind., from 2010 to ‘14. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Telecommunications with a minor in Business from the University of Kentucky, and a master’s in Public Affairs from Indiana University.

 

Deer Park

Village to host Deer Park Art Show

The village announced that the Deer Park Art Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 9 and 10 at Deer Park Town Center, 20530 N. Rand Road. The event will feature a host of juried artists showcasing and selling a variety of art, including paintings, photography, ceramics, glass, jewelry and more. Admission is free.
