Deerfield’s Winter Celebration features host of activities 

e village announced that its 2016 Winter Celebration will be held from 5-9 p.m. Dec. 2 at Village Hall, 850 Waukegan Road, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 3 at The Shops at Deerfield Square’s Forrest Plaza, 740 N. Waukegan Road. Activities on Dec. 2 include horse-drawn carriage rides, a two-hour, live ice sculpting show and chestnut roasting on the Village Hall front lawn, followed by live holiday performances by the Deerfield High School Choraliers, The Caroling Party Quartet and The Hurricane Saxophone Quartet in the Village Hall lobby. Hot cider, hot chocolate, cookies and other treats will be available. Activities on Dec. 3 include a petting zoo, pony rides, a hot cocoa tent and horse-drawn carriage rides to Village Centre Plaza, located at the southeast corner of Waukegan Road and Deerfield Road, for photos with Those Funny Little People (holiday-costumed mascots) and a performance by the Agape Ringers Quartet bell ensemble. Lakemoor 

 Woodman’s Food Market to proceed with store development plan 

The village report stated that the Lakemoor Development Team, led by Mayor Todd Weihofen, announced that the Board of Directors for Woodman’s Food Market recently approved proceeding with the purchase and development of a 74-acre parcel at the southwest corner of Route 12 and Route 120. Woodman’s is proposing to construct a 240,000-square-foot food store, along with a free-standing gas station that also includes a convenience store, car wash and quick lube center. Woodman’s and the village now will work together to secure approvals required to begin construction and development of the site. Fox River Grove  

Tree Lighting Festival includes visit from Santa, live music 

The village announced that the Fox River Grove Special Events Committee will present Tree Lighting Festival 2016 from 2-5 p.m. Dec. 3 at Algonquin Road School,

975 Algonquin Road. Santa Claus will arrive by fire truck at 2:30 p.m., and the tree lighting will be held at 5 p.m. The event also includes pictures with Santa, rides on the Miracle Express Train, a sleigh hayride, balloon animals, cookie decorating, games and refreshments, and performances by the Cary-Grove High School Swing Choir and the McHenry County Youth Orchestra. Highland Park 

City approves sale of Highland Park Theater for redevelopment 

The city reported that Mayor Nancy Rotering and the Highland Park City Council unanimously approved a purchase and sale agreement for $1.1 million with the Canel Companies of Highland Park for the Highland Park Theater. The Canel Companies will purchase and redevelop the theater (445 Central Ave.) and a portion of the Ori South Parking Lot (441-447 Central Ave.). Redevelopment of the theater property contemplates demolition of the existing theater building, construction of a new building, resurfacing and restriping of the Ori South lot, construction of a new lot north of the existing theater building (with a total of 78 parking spaces), and installation of landscaping improvements on the Ori South lot. The proposed development also includes the construction of a new, two-story building for retail, office and restaurant use, and a garden.

Friends of Parks and Rec to host Dinner with Santa event 

: The city announced that the Friends of Lake Forest Parks and Recreation Foundation will present Dinner with Santa on Dec. 3 and 4 at Northcroft Park Pavilion, 1365 S. Ridge Road. The event will feature two seating times each evening: 4:30-5:30 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. Attendees can help Santa’s elves create holiday toys, listen to Santa read a Christmas story to the children and enjoy hot cocoa.  SWALCO to hold Business Electronics Recycling Collection 

The village announced that SWALCO (Solid Waste Agency of Lake County), in cooperation with eWorks Electronics Services Inc., will host a Business Electronics Recycling Collection event from 8 a.m. to noon Dec. 6 at the Archer Municipal Parking Lot, 308 Old McHenry Road. The free event is open to businesses, schools, institutions and local units of government. Participants must present a business card or Federal Tax ID upon arrival. Accepted items include personal computers and tablets, electronic keyboards and mice, fax machines, small and large-scale servers, printers, copiers, scanners, cell phones, telephones, postage machines, shredders, calculators, cable/satellite receivers, VCRs, DVRs, DVD players, stereos, microwave ovens, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, cords, cables and other electronic office equipment. Fees will apply for televisions ($20) and CRT monitors ($15). All items should be delivered unboxed and free of excess packing materials.  Santa and reindeer highlight Miracle on Main Street event 

The village announced that it will host Miracle on Main Street from 4:30-7 p.m. Dec. 3 at Rotary Park, 7 E. Main Street. The event includes a 35-foot tree (on display for the holiday season), visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus (and their reindeer), children’s crafts, sleigh rides, food vendors and adult beverages. Cookies and hot cocoa will be provided by the Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Lake Zurich Lions Club will provide hot cider. Entertainment includes Lake Zurich High School’s Bare Voices, the Academy of Performing Arts and a DJ. Admission is free; attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations to support the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.
