ComEd to begin installation of smart meters

A report stated that ComEd will begin a program to upgrade meters in homes across Lake County with smart meters. More than 300,000 smart meters will be installed in 2016, continuing into 2018. A smart meter can provide homeowners with access to more information about the home’s electricity use, and help homeowners make changes to help save money on energy bills. Homeowners do not need to be home if their meter can be accessed. ComEd will contact homeowners by phone to provide notification regarding when the home is scheduled for installation. A uniformed meter installer — with appropriate identification from ComEd or Corix, a ComEd-authorized contractor — will perform the installation at no cost. More than a million smart meters have been installed across northern Illinois, and ComEd plans to install approximately four million smart meters in all homes and businesses throughout northern Illinois by the end of 2018. For more information, call (866) 368-8326 or visit www.comed.com.

Village begins Residential Food Scraps Program

The village announced that its Residential Food Scraps Program has begun. The program offers residents several options for recycling food scraps. In conjunction with the village’s landscape waste subscription service — through Waste Management — residents can recycle food scraps by placing such waste at curbside in a rigid and lidded container, not exceeding a capacity of 32 gallons, or in a 35-gallon cart provided by Waste Management at an additional charge of $3 per month (arranged directly through Waste Management). The food scraps collection option is included in the regular landscape waste subscription charge of $76.88.
