 Buffalo Grove Singers to present 24th Annual Choral Celebration 

The Buffalo Grove Park District announced that the BG Singers, a community choral group featuring more than 70 vocalists, will present its 24th Annual Choral Celebration, “Carry On,” at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16 and 17, and 3 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Buffalo Grove Community Arts Center, 225 McHenry Road. The performance will include selections from a wide variety of genres, including Broadway, pop, rock and folk music. The BG Singers, in partnership with the Berkowitz Fine Arts Fund, help fund arts scholarships for area students and help local schools acquire equipment needed for arts programs, among numerous other philanthropic efforts. Tickets for “Carry On” are $17 (adults) and $15 (ages 12 and under; ages 62 and up) if purchased online (at www.bgsingers.org) in advance. All tickets will be $20 at the door.  Deerfield 

Deerfield Farmers Market Harvest Fest & Touch-a-Truck event on tap 

The Deerfield Park District will host Farmers Market Harvest Fest & Touch-a-Truck from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 24 at the corner of Deerfield Road and Robert York Avenue. In addition to fruits, vegetables, plants, flowers and specialty food items for sale at Farmers Market, the event includes kids’ activities, balloons, face painting, prizes and more.  Waukegan 

Waukegan Park Dist. superintendent Trigg earns 10th District Leadership Award 

The Waukegan Park District announced that Superintendent of Parks Mike Trigg has been honored with an Illinois 10th District Leadership Award in the Friend of the Environment category. Trigg was selected among more than 200 nominees. The award is presented to an individual who has worked diligently to improve and protect the environment. In addition to his role in leading the park district’s “Green Team,” which develops and monitors sustainable practices to further environmental stewardship, Trigg mentors a high school student each year in the Center for Conservation and Leadership’s environmental stewardship certificate program. Antioch 

Antioch  Document shredding event includes chance to aid food pantry 

The village announced that the Antioch Police Department, with support from State Bank of the Lakes, will host Community Shredding and Identity Theft Prevention — an event in which members of the community are invited to securely shred personal documents on-site — from 9-11 a.m. Sept. 17 at the West Municipal Building parking lot, located on Toft Street between Lake and Orchard streets. Participants should enter off of Toft Street into coned areas leading up to the shred trucks, where they will be assisted in removing documents from their vehicles for secure shredding. In addition, Antioch police officers and detectives will be on hand to provide information on how to detect and prevent identity theft. The event is free, though each participating community member is encouraged to donate two food items to support the Open Arms Mission Food Pantry Weekend Backpacks Program. Food items needed include 12-ounce, pop-top cans of pasta or soup, microwavable mac-and-cheese, instant oatmeal packs, individual dry cereal boxes, snack-pack applesauce and fruit cups, and raisins, granola bars and other nutritious snacks. Mundelein 

Mundelein’s Pine Meadow GM Johnsen earns national PGA award 

The village reported that Dennis Johnsen, general manager and head professional at Pine Meadow Golf Club, in Mundelein, recently received the 2016 PGA Youth Player Development Award. The award is annually given to a golf professional who has “displayed extraordinary and exemplary contribution and achievement” in the area of youth player development. Johnsen was chosen for the national award among more than 28,000 PGA members throughout the country. He also earned the 2015 Illinois PGA Youth Development Award. A PGA member for 40 years, Johnsen is chairman of the Illinois Player Development Sub-Committee for the PGA Junior Golf League, and also serves on the PGA’s Youth Player Development Committee. Ela Township 

First annual Ela Township Day to include free cookout 

In conjunction with Illinois Township Day, the first annual Ela Township Day will be held Sept. 21. The event will begin with an open house from 4-5 p.m. at Ela Township Hall, 1155 E. Route 22, Lake Zurich, followed by the Ela Township Cookout from 5-7 p.m. at Knox Park, located on Telser Road at Route 22, Lake Zurich. The cookout includes free food, music, information booths, Touch-a-Truck, children’s games and activities, and “Ela Township’s Biggest Electric Slide” at 6 p.m.. Admission is free. Attendees bringing a non-perishable food item to support the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry will receive a raffle ticket for each donation, with a chance to win a large, flatscreen TV. Lincolnshire 

 Leonas hired as new Lincolnshire Chief of Police 

The village reported that Joseph Leonas has been hired as the new Lincolnshire Chief of Police. Leonas brings more than 26 years of experience as a police officer with the Bartlett Police Department, mostly recently as Deputy Chief of Police. He graduated from DePaul University with a bachelor’s degree in English, and earned a master’s degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration from Western Illinois University. Leonas also is a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Staff & Command, as well as the FBI National Academy, in Quantico, Va.. He replaces former Lincolnshire Chief of Police Peter Kinsey, who recently retired.
