Lake Bluff

Public hearing on tap to study proposed development

The village reported that the Plan Commission & Zoning Board of Appeals (PCBZA) will hold a public hearing — originally scheduled for June 15 — regarding a proposed development in the Lake Bluff Central Business District at 7 p.m. July 19 in the Village Hall Board Room, 40 E. Center Ave. The hearing was delayed to allow The Roanoke Group, the project’s developer, time to respond to comments from the PCZBA concerning the proposed development and text amendment to the Zoning Code. The Roanoke Group is seeking to amend the Zoning Code to receive a Planned Mixed-Use Development special-use permit to redevelop a 0.76-acre parcel at the former PNC Bank property, located at 120 E. Scranton Ave. The site includes the existing single-story building, adjacent parking lots, and the unimproved land at the corner of Evanston and E. Scranton avenues. The redevelopment proposal includes a three-story, 16-unit multi-family building, and fully enclosed grade-level parking for 32 spaces. The proposal also suggests changing Oak Avenue, between E. North and E. Scranton avenues, from one-way to two-way traffic. For more information, call (847) 234-0774 or visit www.lakebluff.org.

Western Ave., is hosting a Where’s Waldo Hunt, beginning at 9:30 a.m. July 1 and concluding with a Where’s Waldo Prize Party at 4 p.m. July 30. The famous children’s book character in the striped shirt and black-rimmed glasses will be “visiting” 25 different local businesses throughout July. Participants can visit the bookstore to pick up a Find Waldo Local passport, which contains the names of all participating sites, and then get their passports stamped or signed for each Waldo spotted. Collecting stamps or signatures at 20 or more businesses will enter participants into a grand prize drawing, on July 30, with the top prize consisting of a six-volume set of Waldo books. Participation in the Where’s Waldo Hunt is free. For more information, call (847) 234-4420 or visit www.lakeforestbookstore.com.
