Wheeling

Village to host CPR course

The village announced that the Wheeling Fire Department will host an American Heart Association Adult and Pediatric CPR Course from 6:30-10 p.m. Dec. 13 at Fire Station #24, 499 S. Milwaukee Ave. The course is open to the public. The cost is $20 for residents, $25 for non-residents and free for Village of Wheeling employees. Buffalo Grove

Police Dept. raises funds to aid Muscular Dystrophy

The village reported that members of the Buffalo Grove Police Department recently collected more than $17,000 to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). During “Restaurant Week,” firefighters collected more than $1,700 from local restaurant patrons, including those at The Buffalo, Continental, Nino’s, Culver’s and Dairy Queen. In addition, more than $10,000 was raised by firefighters who collected funds over a two-day period while stationed outside at various Buffalo Grove roadways. An additional $2,500 was collected during Buffalo Grove Days, with another $3,000 coming from anonymous donors. For more information, call (847) 459-2500 or visit www.vbg.org. 

Fox Lake

Village mourns loss of longtime trustee Murrey

The village announced that Fox Lake Village Trustee Greg Murrey, a lifelong resident of Fox Lake, passed away Nov. 15 at age 61. Murrey served as a Village Trustee for a combined total of 18 years. He was instrumental in a number of municipal projects, including the establishment of the Northwest Regional Water Reclamation Facility (NWRWRF), located at 200 Industrial Drive. NWRWRF now provides water treatment services for many communities within Lake County, treating more than 12 million gallons per day. In addition to his service as a Village Trustee, Murrey was a longtime member of the Fox Lake Volunteer Fire Department, a head mechanic for the Grant Township Highway Department and a member of the Sons of American Legion Post 703. Services for Murrey were held.     

North Chicago

Ald. Markham, Sr. to host special 5th Ward meeting

The city announced that 5th Ward Alderman Torrance Markham, Sr. will host a special 5th Ward meeting, entitled, “Resident Appreciation,” from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 2 at Nicasa Judy H. Fried Center, 2031 Dugdale Road. Besides Markham, Sr., the meeting will include representatives from the North Chicago Police Department, Fire Department and Public Works Department, as well as Shields Township. Mundelein

Mundelein High concert to feature works by Wilson

The Mundelein High School Honors Wind Ensemble and Honors Symphonic Winds will present a concert of works for wind band at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 in the Mundelein High School Auditorium, 1350 W. Hawley St. The program will include works by Dana Wilson, Frank Ticheli, Samuel Hazo, Morten Lauridsen and John Philip Sousa. Two new works by Wilson, Professor of Composition at Ithaca College (retired), will receive their premiere performances: “The Banquet,” a programmatic work depicting a failed attempt to assassinate Archbishop of Chicago George Cardinal Mundelein in 1916, and “Old Number One,” Wilson’s tribute to the Mundelein Fire Department’s beloved first engine that was donated by Cardinal Mundelein in 1924. Prior to the concert, at 6 p.m., Wilson will provide a “Conversation with the Composer” in the Mundelein Room. Admission to the concert is free and open to the public. Lakemoor

Village seeks help to decorate holiday trees    

In celebration of the first holiday season in the new Village Hall/Police Department facility, the village is seeking the community’s help to decorate holiday trees in the lobby of Village Hall, 28581 Route 120. Families and community members can participate by making a tree ornament to be included in the public display. Ornaments will be accepted at the Village Hall counter from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, concluding Dec. 15. All ornaments should not exceed 4×4 inches in size. With each submission, participants will be entered into a drawing to win one of three Amazon gift cards ($100, $50 and $25). The drawing will take place at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 15. Holiday Tree Lighting on tap at Village Green

The village and Baceline Investments (owner of Village Green) will host Lincolnshire’s Holiday Tree Lighting from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Dec. 2 in the fountain area of the Village Green Shopping Center, 100 Village Green (at the corner of Milwaukee Avenue and Olde Half Day Road). The event includes musical performances by local school groups, an appearance by Santa Claus, and a variety of refreshments and food items provided by Lincolnshire restaurants and businesses. In addition, attendees can bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to Toys For Tots, and wreaths will be available for purchase from Boy Scout Troop 78.
