The Park District of Highland Park reported that the Highland Park City Council and the Park District Board of Commissioners recently approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlining the long-term future of the Highland Park Country Club (HPCC), located at 1201 Park Ave. West.

Lake County

Series of public meetings to study transportation options

Lake County, in conjunction with the Lake County Coordinated Transportation Services Committee (LCCTSC), is conducting a paratransit market study to evaluate transportation options for county residents and to prepare an implementation plan to improve service in the Lake County region. A series of upcoming public meetings will provide an overview of the draft analysis of existing conditions and draft recommendations for service implementation. Attendees will have opportunities to ask questions and provide feedback and comments. The meetings will be held from 9-11 a.m. Jan. 23 at the Barrington Park District, 235 Lions Drive, Barrington; 1-3 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center, 2007 Civic Center Way, Round Lake Beach; 5-7 p.m. Jan. 24 at Warren Township Senior Center, 17801 W. Washington St., Gurnee; and 9-11 a.m. Jan. 25 at the Highland Park Police Department, 1677 Old Deerfield Road, Highland Park. Wheeling

Lunch at Pavilion senior dining program gets new home 

The village announced that the Lunch at Pavilion Senior Congregate Dining Program will now be held at St. Joseph the Worker Social Hall, 181 W. Dundee Road. The program, sponsored by the Village of Wheeling Senior Services, hosts meal service for ages 60 and up, regardless of ability to pay. Nutritionally balanced lunches are served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (reservations required). Social activities and informational programs are included. Diners will have the opportunity to contribute part or all of the cost. The suggested donation is $4 per meal. For frequent diners, five-meal punch cards are available for $15. Cards are available at the Social Hall during regular lunch hours and have no expiration date. Deerfield

Plans underway for new senior residential facility

The village reported that the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago (JFMC) Facilities Corporation and Banner Development LLC recently were approved to develop CJE-Deerfield Senior Residences, an independent living facility consisting of six stories and 240 units located on a 5.2-acre site at 1627 Lake Cook Road. The JFMC Facilities Organization also owns the Weinberg Community for Senior Living Campus, which is adjacent to the new development and consists of Gidwitz Place (assisted living) and Friends Center (memory care). CJE-Deerfield Senior Residences will be the latest edition to the Weinberg Community campus, and will become part of the continuum-of-care provided by CJE Senior Life. Mundelein High to host event for next freshman class

Mundelein High School, 1350 W. Hawley St., will host Curriculum Night and Activities/Athletics Fair, an event to welcome the incoming freshman class of 2022, on Jan. 23. The program, intended for parents and students alike, will include an overview of academic programs and an orientation to the course selection process. Parents and students with last names A-L should arrive at the auditorium by 6 p.m. for a 30-minute presentation about curricular programs. Parents and students with last names M-Z will attend the 7:15 p.m. session in the auditorium. The presentation also will be offered in Spanish in the cafeteria during both sessions. The Activities/Athletics Fair will take place in the Main Gym following the formal presentation. Incoming freshmen will be dismissed from the auditorium for a separate program hosted by Link Crew, a group of juniors and seniors who serve as freshman ambassadors. The program includes prizes, food, a contest and Mustang gear giveaways. In addition, the school’s spirit store, Mustang Nation, will be open for business. Highland Park

Park Dist. to begin plans for re-do of golf course property

The Park District of Highland Park reported that the Highland Park City Council and the Park District Board of Commissioners recently approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlining the long-term future of the Highland Park Country Club (HPCC), located at 1201 Park Ave. West. Included in the MOU is the sale of the HPCC golf course property from the city to the Park District. The Park District will pay the city $500,010 for the property, and the sale is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2018. The Park District will cease golf operations at the HPCC in 2018 as it commences plans to transition the property into a passive, recreational open area. The Park District will continue to oversee banquet operations and meeting room rentals at HPCC through a third-party banquet management firm. Pursuant to the MOU, the city will retain ownership of the HPCC building and the Learning Center property. Barrington Hills

Longtime Director of Administration Kosin retires

The village announced that longtime Barrington Hills Director of Administration Robert Kosin retired on Jan. 1. Kosin began his career in the area with the Barrington Area Council of Governments (BACOG), and was named Barrington Hills Planning and Zoning Coordinator in 1982. He became Director of Administration in 1986. Among his accomplishments, Kosin initiated the process for the Barrington Garden Club and Barrington Hills to receive a Blue Star Memorial Highway marker in recognition of an area that was used as an enlistment site for Union soldiers during the Civil War. Kosin was honored for his 35 years of service with the village during a special reception on Dec. 20, 2017.
