The Job Center of Lake County and the Lake County Health Department will co-host a Health and Wellness Job Fair from 3-7 p.m. Feb. 1 at the Lake County Health Department, 3010 Grand Ave., Waukegan. A partial list of attending employers includes Ascension, Assured Healthcare Staffing, First Institute Training & Management, Inc., Froedtert South, Lake County Health Department, NorthShore University Healthsystem and Oak Street Health. More than 100 positions will be available, including physicians, registered nurses, LPNs, CNAs, social workers, phlebotomists, medical assistants, student nursing interns, medical and clinical lab technicians, home health aides and more. Village to host open house meeting on economic plan

The village announced that it will host an informational meeting/open house concerning Lincolnshire’s 2018 Economic Development Strategic Plan from 6-8 p.m. Jan. 30 at Village Hall, 1 Olde Half Day Road. Attendees will learn about the process of updating the 2018-2022 Economic Plan, as well as details included in the draft plan document, and also receive a report about progress made in implementing projects identified in the 2013-2017 Economic Development Strategic Plan. In addition, attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback/suggestions regarding the draft plan prior to its consideration by the Village Board. Fox River Grove

Village nets award for new public works facility   

The village announced that Fox River Grove recently received a Public Works Project of the Year Award from the American Public Works Association (APWA) Fox Valley Branch (in the structures under $5 million category) for the construction of its new public works facility, located at 1229 Lincoln Ave. With this designation by the APWA Fox Valley Branch, the project will now be considered by the APWA Chicago Metro Chapter for an award in the same category. The village stated that the new public works facility has proven to be a major asset to the Public Works Department and the community, thanks to the improvements it facilitated in terms of efficiency, safety, training and effectiveness. The new facility also came with a substantial reduction in cost to the village compared to initial plans for the project, resulting in a savings of approximately $4 million. The project team included village officials, Kluber Architects + Engineers, Engineering Resource Associates and Lamp Incorporated. Island Lake

Lions Club to hold 2018 Ice Fishing Derby

The village announced that the Island Lake Lions Club’s 2018 Ice Fishing Derby will be held from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 3 (back-up date is Feb. 10), with headquarters at Eastway Park, 411 Woodbine Ave. Hourly prizes will be awarded (in the Adult and Children’s divisions) for the longest fish in each of the following categories: Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Walleye, Channel Catfish, Crappie, Bluegill, Smallmouth Bass and Perch. The event, a fundraiser for the Island Lake community, also includes 50/50 cash raffles, gift certificates, fishing supplies and more. The entry fee is $15 (adults) and $5 (ages 15 and under). Raffle and prize presentations will be held at 3 p.m. at 3-D Bowl/Sideouts Sports Tavern, 4018 Roberts Road. Barrington

Barrington Area Chamber to host annual economic summit 

The Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC) will host its Annual Economic Summit: “State of the Barrington Region” from 8-10 a.m. Feb. 7 at Barrington’s White House, 145 W. Main St. The event is open to the public and includes a breakfast buffet (provided by Egg Harbor) and networking, followed by a program and Q&A session featuring the following panelists: Karen Darch of Barrington, Martin McLaughlin (Barrington Hills), Dale Sands (Deer Park), John Tatooles (Inverness), Nandia Black (Kildeer), Kevin Richardson (Lake Barrington), Bill Jacob (Long Grove), Albert Pino (North Barrington), Shannon Yeaton (Port Barrington), Paula McCombie (South Barrington) and David Parro (Tower Lakes). Gurnee

Campbell retires after long run with Police Dept.

The village announced that Gurnee Police Department Deputy Chief Saundra Campbell recently retired after serving with the department for 25 years. Campbell began her career with the patrol division in 1992 and was assigned to investigations in 1996. She was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1999, and became Commander of the patrol division in 2011. In 2014, Campbell was promoted to Deputy Chief overseeing the patrol division and investigations, and became Deputy Chief of support services in 2016. Campbell also serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors at the Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center, in Gurnee, and also as volunteer domestic violence victim advocate for a Safe Place.

Buffalo Grove

Park Dist. to host Cinderella’s Royal Ball

The Buffalo Grove Park District will host Cinderella’s Royal Ball from 3:30-5 p.m. and also from 6-7:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at Ivy Hall Elementary School, 1072 Ivy Hall Lane. Cinderella and her princess friends will be performing, and will also be available to meet and greet attendees throughout the evening. Additional dancing and entertainment will be provided by Charizma, and a royal dessert buffet will be provided by Culver’s. Each child must be accompanied by one adult, and each couple will receive a party favor upon departure. Participants should dress in their favorite royal attire.
