Electronic evidence K9 aids State’s Attorney Office

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office announced the recent addition of a new member of its Cyber Division: Browser, an electronic evidence K9. Browser, a 75-pound black Labrador Retriever, is specially trained to sniff out electronic evidence such as cell phones, tablets, flash drives and SD (Secure Digital) cards. Browser is the second K9 of his specialty in the State of Illinois and one of only a few nationwide. Browser has already been successful in participating in approximately 10 search warrants, including a child pornography case in which he found SD cards hidden in a jewelry box. In addition to his work in Lake County, Browser will assist the State of Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force to participate in search warrants to uncover hidden devices in child exploitation cases, as well as other investigations involving electronic evidence. Browser has also accompanied his handler to Lake County school presentations, delivering the State’s Attorney’s message on internet safety and cyber-bullying.
