The DeKalb/NIU Art Walk

Throughout Downtown DeKalb and on the Northern Illinois University campus, DeKalb

A total of 24 galleries and other venues will be open to the public in the DeKalb Arts, Culture & Entertainment District (A.C.E. Corridor). Come visit and celebrate the hospitality and culture of the art venues, downtown businesses and community organizations. The Art of Swing and Serious Fun

The NIU Jazz Orchestra & NIU Steelband will perform after Art Walk ends. Top off the evening with an “Art of Swing” performance by the NIU Jazz Orchestra & “Serious Fun,” NIU Steelband, co-directed by Liam Teague. Haunting of the Corn Maze

The public is invited to enjoy Jonamac Orchard’s annual Haunting of the Corn Maze, on Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 29. A 10-acre cornfield and 3 miles of winding pathways have a Halloween makeover. Adventure seekers should prepare to be scared when they challenge the maze during the Haunting. Adding to the natural spookiness of rustling cornstalks and unlit pathways, the second half of the maze has become “inhabited” with haunters of all sorts, chainsaws, a graveyard and other surprises. Saturday Sundry Ride

Free 

Get your weekend off to a healthy start by participating in a varied difficulty ride. Distance and pace will depend on the group and weather. Some group riders will be riding up to 60 miles. Some shorter distances or turn-arounds will happen as well for those unable to complete that distance or pace. Call (815) 758-2403.

Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra & Campus Strings 

7:30 p.m. 

NIU Music Building’s Boutell Memorial Concert Hall, DeKalb 

$15 for adults, $10 for seniors 62 and over, $5 for children under 12 & students with school ID 

Fourteen-year-old composer and pianist Emily Bear will perform three original compositions, George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” and The Planets, Op. 32 by Gustav Holst. A free pre-concert lecture will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Tickets will go for sale 30 minutes before the performance. Antique Farm Equipment Show

10 a.m.-8 p.m.

This annual Antique Farm Equipment show features working farm equipment and steam engines from decades ago. Catch a free hayride to the pick-your-own pumpkin patch and check out the pumpkin patch as pumpkins are blasted into the air. Pony rides will be available both days. The Wooden Rockers will perform 12-4 p.m. Oct. 9. All activities will continue on Oct. 10 for Columbus Day with regular admission and activity pricing. Sunday at Sandwich Antique Show 

8 a.m.-4 p.m. 

Sandwich Fairgrounds, 1401 Suydam Road, Sandwich 

$5 for adults, children 12 and under are admitted free 

This monthly market of quality antiques and collectibles, crafts and garden goods held at the Sandwich Fairgrounds will be the last one for the season. The market is a destination location for both the casual visitor and the sophisticated collector.
